I remember Morey went far enough to show up on Marcin Gortat's steps the night of free agency to offer him a spot but Gortat got greedy in negotiation and wanted a lot more than Morey was willing to offer. Well, here are his numbers this season.

13 minutes per game? Stats aren't reliable when you play that little.

I'm happy to not overpay for Gortat. But, there was nothing greedy about what contract Gortat signed. He took the best offer, just as you and I would have done.

Well Ariza has done so much more with the MLE

Gortat would of made a bigger impact IMO.

You do know that he plays behind the best center in the nba and doesn't get as many minutes right? *ducks for cover*

I'm open to that idea and it could be, but you'd think he'd have more flashes of greatness in those consistent 13 minutes he's been playing... I don't know, I think that he'll grow into a good player but for what he wanted I'm just saying I'm glad we didn't over pay. I would love to have him on the team though and I don't blame him for taking more money.

funny you say that because that was sort of one of his reasons for not coming to Houston. He didn't want to have to play second fiddle to Yao's greatness and try and fill those big shoes.

btw, Yao is the best in the NBA when you're on Clutchfans.net.

Gortat is overrated. Watched him play and Chuck Hayes would be 10x better than Gortat.

    Glad we didn't get him.

I think an Ariza- Gortat tandem would be quite a sight to behold.

The guy is a starter in this league. If you give him minutes he'll produce.

Stan Van Gundy is one of the worst coaches of all time.

He has talent rotting in his bench(gortat,bass....) and he plays reddick?

MLE would be over-paying Gortat, but he's still a quality player. Staying in Orlando is really hurting his career; same goes for Brandon Bass.

And for what it's worth, on that very same page:

Ranks #20 in the NBA in Rebounds Per 48 Minutes (14.5)
Ranks #7 in the NBA in Blocks Per 48 Minutes (3.25)
Ranks #22 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds Per 48 Minutes (4.6)
Ranks #19 in the NBA in Defensive Rebounds Per 48 Minutes (9.9)

    That's not bad.

Why did Orlando even sign Bass in first place if SVG really values spacing/shooting to this degree? It's one thing to retain Gortat simply because you don't want to lose him for nothing, but Bass is entirely different.

I swear if you called up SVG and gave him the choice between Carl Landry or Matt Bonner, he would take Bonner.

well, this is just sort of foolish. Orlando plays reddick a lot because he's a good backup to Vince, esp when he's shooting poorly. Dwight and 'Shard rarely have turd nights, creating a logjam in their frontcourt. That's why they don't get minutes. Not only that, but they act as an insurance policy for the magic in case of a suspension or injury.

Gortat is Dwight Howard's backup. I don't think the 2 of them would be great together at the same time.

Should the coach cut Howard's minutes?

Didn't Orlando match the Maverick's offer? He had to go back to Orlando.
