Sorry if this is posted somewhere. I looked at the first two pages and it appears there are no updates on the older Arenas threads.

Arenas plead guilty. His lawyer claims the government offered him the minimum sentence for the charges filed against him - six months. He's apparently going to do time though. Wow.

Also, I find this very surprising. Because isn't this going to make it easier for the Wizards to void his contract? I thought he'd fight it like he was fighting to keep the 80 million he had coming to him.

Props to you for telling it like it is about a player you like.

Hopefully, this allows Arenas to get his head right.

I wasn't a fan of his antics and personality but I never thought he'd do something this stupid. He still needs to do some growing up, apparently.

I'm gonna get flamed for this but I don't think he should have to do jail time. I know that the law in DC mandates jail time but on a purely ethical basis, I don't think he deserves it. If someone who gets drunk and kills a family can get off with a slap on the wrist( couple years probation and probably some classes ), why does someone who discretely carried unloaded handguns and never used them in a threatening manner like pointing it at somone deserve jail time?

So is criminal conviction gonna be a legit reason for the Wizards to void his contract?

That's not an ethical basis. In order for you to argue from an ethical basis, you have to present an argument that what he did wasn't unethical. Your argument appears to be pretty close to one we've all heard before - "But what Bobby did was even worse and he didn't get grounded! Waaaaaaaahh"

It's a fault in our legal system that not everybody gets the punishment they deserve, and sentencing for the same exact crime can vary wildly. That doesn't mean that nobody should get punished for breaking the law - especially when it's something as reckless as what Arenas did. Did you click on the link? That situation could have easily escalated. Someone could have been killed. I think we should all be grateful that no shots were fired in the locker room that day. Who knows what would have happened or who we might be mourning right now.

I've always liked Gilbert Arenas, but he deserves this regardless of what punishments other people may receive for comparable or worse crimes. He deserves to have his contract voided too. His job is to help sell a product - the Wizards and NBA Basketball. He did neither any favors in this instance.

I don't know where you get your ethical theory from but here is one that is popular and used in many ethical discussions:
My argument was that the overall result of his actions caused no harm to anyone. By comparison, a person getting drunk and killing people, causes more "unhappiness" than Gilbert's actions. Like I said, I respect the law and I understand why under the law he must go to jail. Your trite argument that "someone could have been hurt" is dangerous. There are many situations where people can be hurt, not many involving a gun. If applied too broadly, we could end up in a society like the one in the book 1984 by Orwell.

I agree with you. As far as illegal gun possession goes, he has the tamest case possible. I'd think a fine and community service would be sufficient. But, the law says 6 months, so he should do 6 months.

So, when will the Wizards pull the trigger on voiding his contract? He has pled guilty already, so I would think they can go ahead now.

The article actually states that it's six months minimum. The maximum is 5 years.

And yeah, I'm really curious as to when the Wizards are going to try to void the contract. I'm sure there is a team lf lawyers working very hard to figure out how to successfully void his contract.

Attempted carrying a pistol without a license? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry? Do they?

Why is Crittenton's only a misdemeanor?
