I am probably not smarter than a politician but I think Obama can lock up the election with the right approach and I think McCain needs to get out of the box and really keep the element of the surprise attack (Palin selection) if he's going to have a chance. (Just study the current electorial college projections online)

So here is what I think Obama should do to win big-

Stop attacking and reacting to attacks- raise the bar on his message, he has been mostly successful in inspiring people, especially undecided and centrists that he brings a new consensus for a new beginning for a better America for all, he should get out and speak to the people.

Obama should now ratchet up the message of unifying, consensus, and change for the good of all. He should focus on speaking to those who need help and he should keep projecting inspiration for real improvement to the lives of the American people.

He should try to quiet down all the back lash towards Palin and McCain, stop defending himself, no negative ads. He should be all about the positive he offers.

He is charismatic and a gifted speaker and if he does this the negative attacks by republicans will back fire and as time wears on people will be drawn to the positive improvement message and they will move away from the personal attack message.

If he attacks back he will look defensive, he must get out and continue to appeal to a broader base of Americans that just want change.

Now for McCain- I think he needs to keep up the out of the box moves (Palin). Here is what I would do. (a purely political move)

I would have Palin set up a meeting with Hillary. Yep, that Hillary. It would be a brilliant political move right at this point.

Palin should work to build communication with her, I think she should talk to Hillary about three things and try to gain perspective from Hillary.

    1. The less qualified nominee was selected (Obama over Hillary)
    2. We are running at a disadvantage (Bush legacy) against the same less qualified candidate.
    3. An Obama loss would ensure a Hillary nomination in campaign 2012.

Heck, make it a secret meeting, it would be explosive for his campaign once it got leaked out. To me Hillary still carries the bitterness of defeat and I think she still would be strongly viable in 2012 if Obama loses in Nov.

That idea is way out of the box, but think of the boost to McCain if Hillary and Palin had a amicable relationship and people found out about it.

It would raise all kinds of questions that Hillary could deflect- kind-of. It's all about getting in the White House, right Hillary.

I know this sounds stupid, but actually I am bored of politics at the moment.

I know neither of those things is going happen but then, I'm not even smarter than a 5th grader. ;)

Well, your idea has one fatal flaw:

If Hillary goes to Palin and strikes a deal, in 2012 Palin would reveal that detail during the next election and it would absolutely DESTROY Hillary.

It would serve no purpose. Also, Hillary has no desire to see Palin, a nobody, upstage her and steal her spot in history.

There would be no deal. Just relationship. No way Hillary could appear to campaign against Obama or for McCain, just sow the seeds of discord.

I am pretty sure Obama is going to win and I am pretty sure his win secures a re-election in 2012 and the end of Hillary in the White House.

Her best chance of being president is for Obama to lose without her helping.

So I think just a relationship with Palin would create enough effect for Obama to be weakened somewhat in the Hillary camp.

I know it is out of the box.

I can't vote in good conscience for Obama or McCain.

Like I said it was a thought born from boredom.

    Hillary is that ambitious.

really, get the post, :D :D does that help?

won't happen, but it is out of the box thinking right?

Former President Clinton, someone who is heralded and loved in the Democratic party, was lamblasted for criticizing Obama during the primary season...what do you think would happen to Hillary if she even associates with that woman? If she's anything less than hostile towards Palin her stock with Dems plummets to historic lows.

I 100% disagree with this. The last 2 presidential elections this happened, and the repubs attacked constantly, winning the white house.

Repeating the mistakes of Gore and Kerry would be a terrible idea.

I don't know if I'm smarter than Palin, but I know I don't need the word "Nuclear" to be phonetically spelled for me to make sure I pronounce it correctly.

From the actual speech which was released to the media:

I agree with you it is a very risky move for Hillary, but I see her in a very risky position if she really wants to be president before she turns 70.

Don't worry McCain/Palin wouldn't think of that kind of thing, isn't going to happen.

But it will take something radical to swing the election at this point, not just naming a woman as VP; something more that moves those on the fence.

Right now the Dem base is firmly fixed behind their ticket, the Rep base is firmly fixed behind their ticket and the Dems have 2 advantages- they are leading at broadening their base and people are generally dissatisfied with the status quo outside of the Rep base.

I think Obama just needs to keep people focused on his promises and plans and he will draw enough of the centrists and independents to take the election.

I am speaking in politcal terms, just winning, not how I feel. I personally don't like the course either side is charting based upon reading their websites.

No, I get what you're saying...I just don't think it's conducive to winning, either...

It is interesting that Obama and Palin seem to project the better public charisma.

Biden- veteran politician to help balance the ticket.
McCain- war hero- the quiet strong leader

neither is an engaging personality like Palin and Obama.

    Are you a Republican?
Your message to OBAMA is simply take the hiigh road
    aka
Let them lie on him and use misinformation and just bend over an TAKE IT
don't try to dissuade it . .. THAT IS A SURE WAY TO LOSE! IMo

    and Hillary
Hillary reaching out to Palin would be POLITICAL SUICIDE
She might as well change her last name to LEIBERMAN
except she won't be accepted by ANY republicans
    If it got 'leaked'

No way in H*LL she is running much less winning on a Demo ticket in 2012

I asked the question up front because
you basically made some pretty ONE SIDED recommendations

Obama to allow the Republicans to berate/lie/and attack him
and basically giving the republicans a free pass to do so
    meanwhile
you want hillary to FALL ON THE SWORD to a party that hates her

    back on subject
For the republicans to have a shot IMO
it is time for some of their own to SWALLOW some pride
Palin needs WOMEN . . . REPUBLICAN WOMEN
    to stomp by her side
    to be her friend
To prop her up early and often

Women like. . . . KAY BAILEY HUTCHINSON
KB will have to swallow some pride and take one for the team
she will have kind of downplay herself to uplife Palin IMO

Palin IMO needs to campaign like McCain is an afterthought
surround her self with STRONG REPUBLICAN WOMAN
at all times. . . and all rallies
    and
stomp a Campaign built on VOTE FOR PALIN and even get a war hero in the deal

I think this is where Biden will prove his value in the campaign by fighting in the trenches while Obama takes the high road, and that is what Obama does best.

You don't get weird thoughts going through your head reading some of these political threads?

I was trying to think of some very unusual scenarios, but I do think Obama needs to take the high road, he has too much of a lead to make a mistake.

Obama doesn't need to fight back against lies, lies won't win out in the end.

I think when the mud is flung so hard and the other guy is showing real character the only one that looks stupid is holding mud in his hand.

    Just an opinion...
