This has to be the worst summer ever when it comes to allergies for me. Every f*cking day, I sneeze like 10 times or more in a minute to 2 minute period. Then it goes away, and I'm okay. But all that sneezing makes me feel bad. Also, sometimes, it causes my eyes to itch and that can be worse than the sneezing. As far as I know, I'm only allergic to ragweed, but I must be allergic to something else. Elsewise, I wouldn't be sneezing all the time. I guess I can try taking the over-the-counter medicine for it, but does anyone here have something different to try?
I know your pain Manny. I have allergies to ragweed and pollen. Its pretty unbearable sometimes. My doctor gives me Claritin but even that doesnt always help. Maybe it would make things easier for you.
I have allergy problems to, also ragweed and pollen, and it is horrible. I'm especially allergic to pollen or minerals like that. I'm allergic to mountain herbal soap, and flower pollen to the point that I start sneezing from PERFUMES that have pollen material in it. A friend of mine had perfume like that I never smelled perfume like that before and just broke out. But back to your original point it's hell on earth!
I used to have real bad allergies and had to take like 5 medicines every allergy season. Now they aren't that bad, and I only take 2 sets of nosedrops sometimes, but have to use an inhaler before football practice.
Im alergic to basically everything, on my doctors allergy check list... Right now i'm stuck taking allergy shots Twice a week for at least 3 months :/
I dose up on antioxidants when I get allergies (antioxidants act like antihistamines). Sometimes my sinuses and ears will clear-up within an hour after taking them, other times I just get a little improvement. I cannot seem to figure out the right mixture. I always take the basics like C,E, beta-carotene, and try mixing in grapeseed extract, glutathione, and a few others. FWIW, don't take too much C if your system isn't used to it.
The Austin area is pretty bad. I use Claritin and Flonase (nose spray). The Flonase is good because it coats your sinuses and prevents the allergens from getting into your system. They work well for me in combination if I take them every day. It take a few days to get the best results, so if you try it, be patient.
I'm allergic to ragweed, and it's usually at its worst in Austin in September and October. Some years it isn't too bad, I get little more than runny nose, sneezing and some stuffiness, other years it's much worse. I'm also allergic to certain breeds of cat.
I am taking Zirtec for sneezing problems now, Comic Book Guy...Inquire about this medicine with your doctor. I had sneezing bouts for a week, but since taking the medication it has stopped...
Too true, Drewdog. I lived here for years with no problems... then, BAM! What is weird is that I had problems in Houston from the pollution and that all went away in Austin. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Living in Austin was great. Austin and no sniffles was fantastic. It's still worth being here, but it's getting TOO BIG. Sorry, off topic.
Allergies are currently taking over my life right now. In all seriousness, my life is miserable right now (of course life will be great again on Wed when LIVE 2003 is released). For me, October is a horrible month. Manny, I hope you are not having them now. When I go to classes, I can't even focus and listen to the prof because I am sniffling, have a runny nose, or worst of all, the itchy eyes. I get seasonal allergies in the fall and spring. Drew, are there some times of the year where your allegies are not as bad as other times? I think Austin is a worse city than Houston for this. I take Claritin D,which does not work anymore, so I am going to the doc this week to try out Zirtec. Right now my my left nostril is moderately stopped up, and my right is completely stopped up. I have to breathe through my mouth and I hate it. I could not sleep worth a damn last might because my nose was such a distraction. I bought 250 napkins and went through them in a week. I am forced to blow my nose and sneeze during class sometimes, which sucks. Sometimes there is this really painful itch in the right side of my nose which causes my right eye to flood with water. Kagy, are you getting any better? My vent is over for now. Back to the Vicks Vaporub.
