ie: If you grew up in Texas USA, are you more proud of being a Texan or an American?

I'm inclined to answer "country" but I know many people who are more proud of being from their province/state.

I went with equal, but I would definitely give up being a Texan before an American. The reason I voted equal is because I love hyping up Texas when I'm @ school here in Arkansas. We're just the best state, so I have to represent sometimes to these Hillbillies! :D

Texans. Have y'all noticed? They must think it's still its own country. I've never seen so much state pride, or ego, or whatever. You can sell any product here just by putting the word "Texas" in its name.

Since I didn't grow up in Texas anyway and have lived in different places - and know a lot more I could easily live in - I feel much more like an "American". Of course, the state I grew up in has a strong contingent that still thinks it's part of the Confederate States of America. "State pride" down south may imply some pretty scary things.

Well considering that whenever you tell somebody you're from Arkansas they laugh, joke about inbreeding and hillbillies, etc. I'll take being more proud of my country.

I voted for Texan. I have only traveled outside the country once. Who I'm going to impress in America that I'm an American?

That being said, I hold no formal alliance with any country, religion, etc. The world is my oyster.

It used to be state for me, especially when I had to move against my will to both California and Illinois my junior year of high school. However, I'm seriously considering moving to the Chicago area before I begin raising a family, so I guess that means I don't have as much Texan pride as before.

I vote equal. I love being an American.

Everyone I know in Vegas is sick and tired of me talking about Texas. It's Texas this and Texas that.
Houston above all else but there was no way to vote for my hometown.
there is just something about those dallas snobs that make me cringe.

I'm more proud that I got out of my country/province (Alberta,Canada) and moved here. Canada's a nice place, but I don't want to live there.

(I really need to get one of those bumper stickers - "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could!")

Born in India - I'm proud of the cultural history.
Raised in the US - I'm proud to be a part of the country that really gave my family opportunity
Lived in Texas my whole life - I'm proud to be a part of a state where for the most part people are among the friendliest you'd find anywhere (I think).

However, I'm most proud of my family and what we've done from nothing. I don't know if it would matter where we're from in that respect. :)

    tough question.

being from america is awesome and i love being from the best country on earth.

but being from texas might be even better. there's the whole "everything's bigger in texas", the bumper sticker Gutter was talking about, Don't Mess With Texas, and so much state pride it's ridiculous. it's always funny with Lance Armstrong, i swear i hear him called a Texan more than an American, even when you're reading something from another country's press about him. there's just something about Texas, such a mystique.

so i think i might actually have to go with Texas.
