As I'm sure you all know, Jimmy Fallon announced that last Saturday's SNL was his last. If you haven't seen or heard, here it is. So, how many of you are happy to see him go? How many are disappointed? Who doesn't give a rat's ass because SNL sucks now anyway?
I watched SNL last weekend for the first time in a long time. It was one of the worst things I have ever seen. The need to put the entire show out of its misery.
Fallon was one of the worst cast members ever so I don't think anyone outside of females ages 17-30 are sad to see him go. Did he ever make it through a skit without laughing? He tried his damndest to ruin the infamous Cowbell skit.
WORST CAST MEMBER EVER! he could never keep a straight face thru a skit. like dan said, he almost ruined the cowbell skit. his inabililty to keep a straight face was the only thing keeping it from being perfect. if he wasnt breaking character than he was forgetting lines. his reoccuring characters sucked (nick burns the IT guy???). his songs that he would play were a cheap imitation of adam sandlers songs from the early 90's. the week rob roddy from price is right died he did a bit on the news saying how the devil was asking him to "come on down" and than he got out of his chair and started dancing while singing "hes dead! hes dead". it was not only bizzare, but very tasteless. at least now we have more screen time with tina fey during the news...mmmm...tina fey
And we're BAAACK!! The show sucks, but I still watch it. I think it has potential. I don't care either way about Fallon, he was just average to me.
I might miss the Jared's Room skit, but only for Horatio Sanz's character. "Phish? I thought it was Chuck Norris"
Will didn't have to turn around and compose himself for 5-10 seconds while everyone else waited for his line.
But Will was actually being funny. Jimmy only had one line in that skit. The thing about Fallon's laughing is that it isn't real. He does it for a cheap pop from the audience. No doubt SNL is in a down cycle right now. But it's been lower than it is now *cough* Joe Piscapo *cough* and it has always come back. The show will never die. The day it gets cancelled will be a sad day, but I don't think that will be anytime soon. Lord knows it's better than that unwatchable Mad TV. That show is excruciatingly un-funny.
Best of Walken!? well that should be a good show I always liked it when Fallon started laughing -- made me laugh (almost) everytime.
You know, the Joe Piscopo days were not considered a "down time", except for the first year when Charles Rocket was supposed to be the big star. But I know a lot of people who look back on the Joe Piscopo/Eddie Murphy days as being one of the better SNL time periods. If you want bad casts, I think you start at 1985-86 (Anthony Michael Hall, Randy Quaid, Joan Cusack, Terry Sweeney, Danitra Vance, Damon Wayans, etc.)
I don't think I could add much to what ima_drummer2k said. I think he hit most of the important points. I never understood why the guy lasted as long as he did. Its hard to understand how an institution like SNL can be in such need of good comic actors and writers when the unemployment line is clogged with them.
