Spinning off of the training camp thread, I thought the topic deserved a thread of it's own. What are y'alls thoughts of what makes someone a real fan? What have done to qualify you as an authentic Rockets fan? If you've ever said "I'm the biggest Rockets fan" then what evidence do you have?

My definition is simple. A true fan is there all the time, year in/year out. Before the championship years. Thru the 'crash', and the excoriating road back.

I've been there with the Rox for over 20 years. I have my favs and those I would like to forget. I'll always be a Rudy man, a Sammy man, an Olajuwan man. A Stevie man. Calvin. Clyde the Rock, yes. Chuckles, not really. I try to never bring up that other guy.

    what he said

in all seriousness, I think real Houston fans KNOW who they are, by spending our time on this forum as oppose to working or studying, I think everyone is a true fan. I dont think you need to PROVE it to anyone...

but i did, I round house kicked someone in the face after they said houston is a mediocre team

I've been a Roxs fan since I was a kid, over 20+ years now

When I was a kid I watched every game and lived and died with each playoff loss before the championship years, still do.

Now a days during the season I make quite a few trips down to Houston from Dallas to watch my team in person.

I went to and stayed thru all of game 7 vs Dallas, until the last tick of the clock

I watched every single minute of last season

I had a Houston Rockets pennant on my wall in 1977, right under my Oilers & Astros pennants ... & that was in Ravenna, Ohio. The Rockets have ALWAYS been my team. Saw them play the Cavs in Richfield that year. Mike Newlin, baby!

I've only been to Houston (airport) once, & that was for about 20 minutes ... on my way to LA, 1993.

I'm currently not doing homework which is due tomorrow, so I can be up to date on the latest in the Rockets world by reading this message board. Not to mention that I have done this basically every hour today and many other times since I came home from school.

Anyways its not actually limited to what you do, is actually what you can do

Although i only read articles, box scores, visit this site. I think im doing my best to be a rockets fan. I dont have live or recorded games in showing on Sydney channels nor anywhere where I can get good rox merchandise (damn Australian Sports). I'm a student and I dont have a job so I cannot get a credit card to shop on ebay.

So, here is my capability theory

smacking anyone who ever talks bad about the rockets. i hate the "mcgrady's just injured goods now" or the "rockets suck. SUCKSUCKSUCK."

and being pissed or depressed because the rockets lost a game, or being angry for the week because they're on a losing streak. but despite the losing, you still have faith in your team.

i also HATE the fact my friend, who is a BANDWAGON fan, has met yao ming and got a signed jersey from him. he rubs it in my face. dang.

I cheered for Pippen when he was a Rocket.. Yes, just because he was a Rocket. If one of the players I despise most comes on to my team and I cheer.. I must be a true fan of this franchise.

That and I've checked this board too many times a day, everyday, this entire offseason, coming off one of the most painful years I can remember in awhile.

But as this upcoming season welts down and we make it to the playoffs.. past round one, through round 2, gliding over round 3 and crushing the competition in the championship, as all the bandwagon fans hop aboard, u shall see me through the waves and waves of fans.. and if that is a dream that doesn't happen and we get left with another 1st round exit, u shall see me~ and with the ragweed blowing throughout as if these forums were some ghost town I'll be easier to spot cause people I'M a true rockets fan, dam proud of it :p

Not to mention when we lose a game it ruins the rest of my day and also the next day unless it is a doubleheader and we win.
