Just curious to see how many members are or were considered by themselves or or coaches to be "gym rats". I call still remember either the custodian or coaches having to kick me out of the gym just about everyday. I would tell myself I had to hit 10 jumpers in a row before I could leave or some other ritual.
I would say I am. As a matter of fact, I just came back from the gym since it closed at 12am EST. I go to the gym to ball like everyday for 2 hours or so.
I used to go home, finish my homework, then stay at the local Y running pick up games until there was no competition left. A lot of the players at the different high schools in my city all became friends because we saw each other so often, and all of us went to the same YMCA. So basically, it was hold court until you lose, then go wait on the sidelines for the next game while shooting the **** with your boys and exchanging stories from the past weekend. Seriously, some of my favorite memories are from doing just that.
i hoop at the local park but we usually get there around 8 and leave around 10, so only 2 to 3 hours of ball
Gym rat meaning basketball played in the gym, only the 1st 3 months I got a gym membership. Used to go to the gym a lot for regular working out and running, the "douchebag" live in the gym way. Though you cant work out 4 hours a day on weights of course. On the outdoor courts, used to be games finished on 1 court, hop in the car and go find another court. When there's no 5 on 5, played 3 on 3. Once thats done, usually at the court walking distance from me, keep shooting around until dark. Had to make the last shot before leaving. Hard to be a gym rat past 30 though. Now... and physical shape shows it. I WISH I could say cuz of girls
I've consistently been to the gym about twice per week for 20 years, but I don't do gym rat things. No extreme weights, grunting, sweating like a pig, stinking up the place, etc...
I am totally a gym rat. I spend about 1.5-2 hours a day at 24 hour... in fact - i feel out of sorts all day (like i haven't brushed my teeth or showered) until i get my daily workout complete.
That ain't no lie. Work, kids, But man I tell you when I do get to hoop, I'm almost always the last to leave.
I did (and still do, sometimes) that type of stuff. I'd be at the park all by myself doing shooting drills until I was exhausted. Then I'd make up some kind of crazy rule that I had to make 10 free throws in a row before I could go home. Then once I did that I'd say I had to make 5 threes in a row. Then after I did that I'd say I had to make 10 full speed, full court layups in a row. Then I'd make myself hit one more free throw, one more three, and one more layup. I think that kind of mentality really benefited me, and not just in sports.
