Are we the biggest disappointment of the league this season?

I remember Charles Barkley calling the Rockets the Second Best team in the West during the charity game. Many of us were hoping for a birth to atleast the Western Conference finals after so many years. With the high expectations for this team during the previous offseason, how much of a disappointment are the Rockets compared to some of the other teams who's plans flopped this season. If not which team is?

The curse of Sir Charles never ends. I hope he says we are the worst team in the NBA next season.

^That was on ESPN's last Power Rankings, and I agree with it.

The only dissapointment for me is that this team couldn't stay healthy. We were supposed to have a great year, but we'll never know how good this team could have done.

Yeah I'd say we are. Golden State was a pretty big disssapointment too. They were looking like a playoff team earlier but just slipped and slipped, then Davis got hurt. Sacramento was looking like a bust this season too until they shook things up with the Artest-Stojakovic trade as well, but man did they come back.

Oh well, lets just hope for next season.

Seattle probably isn't feeling too chipper about their team, either. They were top 3 in the west because they won the division and had a promising season to fulfill, and yet they can't blame their season on injuries.

There were "experts" that said we were going to be the 2nd best team in the west, which we are nowhere near close to, but from last season to this season (without the media hype), I'd say Seattle is the biggest dissapointment. Maybe we are, since we were so hyped up, but...

We had a few disapointments early too. Like Anderson.

I agree, I'd take my chances with a healthy lineup at the start of the year vs. even the Spurs or Mavs. I'm not kidding... take a look at what we could have been. Almost as good as what the '87 Rockets could have been W/O the losses to Lucas, Mitchell and Lloyd (that team could have been one of the best Ever). It still hurts me to think about it. :(

Yes, the Rocks are the biggest disapointment. If they win any game the rest of the way to the lottery, they will be a bigger disapointment.

I wouldn't say having the best center in the league on your team disappointing. :D

I guess the only consolation to this season is we found out for sure Yao will become the most dominant player in the NBA.

Yes without a doubt. Biggest disapointment in the league by far.

I completely agree with this. A concern I have is that CD and JVG ripped apart the team in an (unsuccessful) attempt to prevent us from plummeting, and I'm hoping that the revolving-door-roster we've had this season won't be painful to us in the off-season as we try to acquire free agents.

I want JVG to go, but I don't want JVG to go.

    *sigh*

If the ratings and ticket sales keep getting lower, I'm guessing he will go.

I want JVG to focus on offense more than he has been.

It's not even close we are.

I know we have got injuries and other built in excuses but once Amare went down there were four teams in the nba with a shot at the title the Spurs, Rockets, Heat and Pistons the other three are still looking like solid picks while the Rockets are all but eliminated from the playoffs.

    This has been so disapointing.

Even if we had stayed healthy, this team wouldn't have been second best in the west. We had the potential to be if all of our offseason acquisitions had panned out the way we were expecting, but most of them didn't.

Swift supposedly had "potential" to be an near-all-star caliber forward, but it looks to me like he's peaked. Granted, I wasn't even expecting 14/8 from this guy so he hasn't been TOO much of a disappointment me, but he's been having trouble making any consistent contributions until very recently. Complaints about his inconsistency and softness I've heard from various Memphis fans over the years appear to be true.

Derek Anderson was supposed to be a great shooter for us, but he ended up on the injured list like he always does...and now he's no longer on the team.

David Wesley, Bob Sura and Jon Barry's bodies just broke down. Even though Wesley's still capable of contributing, his shooting and his defense haven't been the same since his surgery. Unfortunately for us, those were the two main reasons why he was brought in to begin with.

Rafer Alson turned out to be a very good playmaker....much better than Mike James could ever be. However, because of our injury status and our lack of pure shooters, his playmaking ability hasn't been enough to offset his inability to drain long range jumpers IMO.

The single bright point of this season by far, has been the awakening of Yao.

Seattle has actually picked up their play ever since they acquired Chris Wilcox and Earl Watson. With the additon of Johann Petrol, they're playing with renewed energy. Unfortunately, they dug themselves into such a deep whole early on in the season, it's unlikely they'll make a run for the playoffs. But I predict they'll definitely be a playoff bound team next season. I highly doubt they're considered a disappointment.

Actually not really. There's not a single one of the players we've let go in the process (either by waiver or trade) that I wish would be back. I mean...Baxter, Anderson, Moochie? Surely you don't miss those guys. And none of the guys we've picked up in the process is going to give us problems ... in fact, we're better off than we would have been if we hadn't let go of these guys. We got two trade exceptions from the Moochie and Anderson trades. Brunson and Frahm are going to be waived once the season is over.

The one problem we have is that our long term contracts (notably Juwan's, combined with Yao's new max salary) are likely going to prevent us from making any big splashes, unless CD can someone wave the magic wand and get someone to accept JH in a trade. At which point many of us here would probably go to his house to worship and pay obeisance every evening for the next 3 years.

I have a feeling this offseason will be a bit painful. We're well over the salary cap, so yet again we'll only be armed with the MLE for free agent signings...and no LLE this year either.

Since we were considered "contenders" last year, players like Swift and Anderson willingly took less money to play with us. This year, I'm sure we'll have no such luck.
