Just wondering what his true trade value could be right now. I don't see any one team wanting to touch Shane. I love Shane's attitude and his ballsy plays, but is he that worn down at the age of 32 that he can not have any trade value right now? He just doesn't even look the same from 2 years ago, then with last year him being hurt doesn't help our case. Is there any value in adding Shane in a trade, or are we stuck with him until his contract is up, we waive him, or he retires?
Aint nothing worse than an old azz Duke player....ask Elton Brand, Laettner, Hurley....Battier is a hustler...He knew he had limitations so he worked hard at something and made a good living doing it...To me he's my inspiration....***** the Battier haters!!!....we not stuck wit him....He stuck with us!!!!
He has an expiring contract, so I don't think it will be too difficult to move him at the deadline. I'll be curious to see if the Rockets bring him back, and at what price.
Yep, there's no such thing as "stuck" when you are talking expiring contracts... you can trade these, just depends on what you are looking to get back. Even TMac's expiring contract got traded even though he was not even playing at all. "Stuck" really should be reserved for those contracts that last for many years, for a lot of money, and with players who can't play up to that amount.
The best course of action IMO regarding Shane would be to trade him for a young center or small forward and then hire him back the next year as an assistant coach. The trouble with this is what team will give up a player of value for Shane at his current level of ability?
I think Battier would be a good player to have for some teams looking to contend, especially a young team like the Thunder. I don't expect it would be hard to move him and get a little value back. And, I fully expect that he will be traded in February 2011.
I would like to trade him and other assets for a star at the trade deadline, and then sign him back on next season for a lower salary.
If the team can't find a leader as involved as he is, then he will...the only way he'll probably be gone otherwise is if we acquire a star player. Steve nash kills two birds with one stone. Best first step they could take given their limited options. Not sure how much they want him or when Phoenix will give him up though..
You dont understand why a team last in the NBA in defense would bring back its only defensive starter and team captain. Seriously? I'll admit he looks awkward as hell offensively but his defense is still rock solid.
Lame...lame...lame topic. As I said before and I'll said it again...this topic has been debated beyond dead. We have too many master debaters on this issue, especially after a lost. It's like they don't have any new thing to say...but just wanted to create a new thread to feel important. If you have no further insight...then zip it!
No, his defense is substandard. Shane's defense consists of a hand in the offensive player's face. Shooters like Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, et al love his defense. Take a look at the big numbers he gives up. I am a big fan of Shane, but his productive days are past if they ever were. Coaching is his future. He will be a great one.
Of course. He was great for us when we had Yao and Tracy at their prime. Shane is a defensive shut down player who makes 3s and doesn't need shots. The problem is, with Shane's defense declining badly over the past few years, what is his value now?
Fixed. It's not like we're talking about the Steve novaks or even the ray allens here...these are top 10 NBA players. What defense will work on them? And which one wouldnt love man to man defense? These guys love single coverage, whether it's against Battier, Artest, Iggy, wade, doesnt matter if the alternative is to be double teamed.
Shane Battier has been trying to create his own shots for a while now. Granted, I haven't watched all of the games for all of their entirety, but it seems like Lowry and Ish, the only playmakers on this team, just aren't getting him the ball enough; either that, or he isn't setting up right for his patented corner 3. Either way, I think when we get Brooks, Yao, and Budinger back, this thread will fade away; Battier needs to know that he isn't the first, second or even third option on this team. But it takes the first and second options coming back, to make him realize that.
