I attended a zoom meeting last nigh which was a somewhat academic lecture on fascism. Often the term is of course just used loosely as an insult. They are many different lists of elements by various scholar of what characteristics are considered emblematic of fascism. One of the lists of elements is below. Is the United States now in a Weimar Germany like state? Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights—Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need”. The people tend to ‘look the other way’ or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause—The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. The supremacy of the Military—Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamourised. Rampant Sexism—The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. Controlled Mass Media—Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or through sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in wartime, is very common. Obsession with National Security—Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. Religion and Government are Intertwined—Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology are common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions. Corporate Power is Protected—The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. Labor Power is Suppressed—Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely or are severely suppressed. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts—Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free-expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. Obsession with Crime and Punishment—Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses, and even forego civil liberties, in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption—Fascist regimes are almost always governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions, and who use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. Fraudulent Elections—Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against (or even the assassination of) opposition candidates, the use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and the manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Powerful and Continuing Nationalism— The left are the modern fascists. Obviously this is continued in Washington regardless of the admin. Look at the insane flag display in DC right now and the obsession with making their movements "patriotic"... the "real" patriotism they brand it. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights—The dems routinely ignore human rights violations in China and other places as long as they are leftist in nature. People on the left also call to remove their opponents from society. Also who built the cages? Also look at Obama setting the precedent for killing US citizens without trial. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause— This is a big one for the left. EVERYONE who disagrees to them is a nazi or white nationalist. Or their other one... deplorable/Trumpian/etc. The supremacy of the Military— 25k troops in DC for one event... yeah. Oh and the inability to question wars if their side starts it. Rampant Sexism—Absolute sexism is an obsession for the left. They choose people for jobs and positions based solely on genitalia. Controlled Mass Media— Most of the mass media is extremely left leaning. They censor the right constantly and aren't done. They shut down the president as well and routinely distorted his words and outright lied. Obsession with National Security— Absolutely the left is obsessed with national security from the deplorable. The left runs on fear alone. They are constantly censoring in order to suppress opponents they've scapegoated and used to inspire fear. Religion and Government are Intertwined— Intersectionality and the SJW agenda IS a religion and they seek to indoctrinate people at every level of society/including the govt... wokeness IS a religion to these people. Corporate Power is Protected— The left and corporate America have been in cahoots for some time now. They scratch each others' backs routinely and even worked together to push their opponents on the right out. Labor Power is Suppressed— Labor is suppressed by importing tons of illegal workers, which floods their wages and their bargaining power. This is why the left and corporate America are so chummy. They also suppress small businesses by upping minimum wage so only corporations can survive. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts—The left routinely de-persons and censors any arts/literature that doesn't fit their religious obsession with wokeness. Obsession with Crime and Punishment—We are there already it seems with the left calling for punishment all the time whether it be social or from the govt itself. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption—This is a staple of most administrations in power and we see no difference with Biden, Obama, or any other leftist. Fraudulent Elections—This last election was fraudulent.
