Are there any unconventional ways to DL flash videos?

    Here's the deal:
In studying for my nursing boards, I've signed up for this online video course and I'd really like to DL the videos to my computer (Mac running OS X 10.6.4).

I hope all my terminology is correct here:
The video player itself says "flash" and the page source says ".flv," and I've tried a million different Firefox extensions and 3rd party apps, but none of them seem to work. They don't "see" the video as something that can be downloaded. I've also tried a few 3rd party apps that allow me to log into the website and view the video itself, but it still won't "see" it as a downloadable Flash video.

I've tried Firefox's first 20 or so flash downloader extensions and probably the same number of 3rd party flash downloader apps that come up on Google.

With all that I've already tried, I guess I'm asking if 1) there's an unconventional way of downloading embedded video that might work or 2) if I should just give it up.

Well, for windows I use the Downloadhelper plugin for Firefox. But I don't know if it'll work with Mac.

Yeah I tried that one. It works for other sites like YouTube, but not here.

If you can get the full path to the FLV file then it can be downloaded. When you say the source says "flv", is it being passed as a parameter to something? Can you copy and paste the source here?

Try to paste it into TextEdit first to see if that works.

Here's the source. I had to delete a few "<" symbols and blank spaces to get it to show up....I hope I didn't make it unreadable.

    Tried it. No dice.

Also....right clicking on the videos I'm trying to DL brings up "About JW Player 5.1.854"

Don't know if that matters and/or helps.

It's a bit tougher since it's being streamed from a Flash Media Server, but it looks like they also have the files available on a regular web server.

In the source code find the location of the XML file that it is loading (http://wpc.1BA7.edgecastcdn.net/001BA7/vod/01.xml), this has information for the different quality videos that it can send.

Open that URL in the browser and get the flv file for whichever bitrate you want, for the highest you would get 01-512.flv.
    media:content bitrate="512" url="01-512.flv" width="320"/

Now replace 01.xml from the original URL with the name of the FLV file, so you end up with: http://wpc.1BA7.edgecastcdn.net/001BA7/vod/01-512.flv, opening that link in your browser should prompt you to save the file.

Glad I could help, I've dealt with streaming flash movies at work so it wasn't too tough to figure out what was going on with it.

So for the second video in the series, I should take http://wpc.1BA7.edgecastcdn.net/001BA7/vod/02.xml, and replace "02.xml" with "02-512.flv" right?

I'm trying that and it's not working. I've got to be missing something easy....The source for the 2nd video is the same, as far as I can tell, minus changing "1" to "2", of course.
