A friend and I want to check out some of the playoff games this wekened, and we're looking for games featuring blue chip recruits..especially stud HB's. Here's the list of games in the Houston area this weekend:

Cypress Falls (8-4) vs. Houston Westfield (11-1)
2 p.m. Saturday at Rice Stadium, Houston

Katy (11-1) vs. Pasadena Dobie (10-2)
1 p.m. Saturday at the Astrodome, Houston

Houston Memorial (9-3) vs. Houston Clear Lake (11-1)
6:30 p.m. Saturday at Rice Stadium, Houston

Jacksonville (10-2) vs. La Marque (10-2)
7 p.m. Saturday, Moorhead Stadium, Conroe

Cameron Yoe (11-1) vs. Jasper (9-3)
7 p.m. Friday at Sam Houston State, Huntsville

    Marlin (11-1) vs. Kirbyville (10-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday at Conroe Stadium

    Brookshire-Royal (12-0) vs. Van Vleck (11-1)
2 p.m. Saturday at Rhodes Stadium, Katy

    Any tips?

Go see Memorial v. Clear Lake. Both are very, very good teams. Memorial is just flat running over people.

Plus, my business partner's son plays for them! And you can't beat Rice stadium for playoff football here!!

Westfield kicked North Shore's ASS Saturday. I know their RB had a td run of 70 yards in their first play from scrimmage. The good thing about playing at Rice is you'll have plenty of parking available, unlike some of the places these games are played at.

I'm thinking we'll hit the Dome first on Saturday to check out Katy, since they supposedly have two awesome running backs, then make it over to Rice for the Memorial/Clearlake nightcap.

Judson high school here in San Antonio will be in the 5A State Finals this year.

Be sure to check them out.

Watch out for Lufkin. They have a nasty running back named Jovorskie Lane. 6-1, 235. He's a monster.

I think I saw Judson play in the state final a couple of years ago..do they have kind of a cream/off-white and red color combo?

The game was one of the most exciting games I've seen in my life. It was going back and forth to the very end and it was probably the most exiciting 10 minutes of sports Ihave ever seen.

Yeah, that was them. We ended up winning the championship.

I was out of town for a debate tournament and missed the game.

    *yawn*

You're telling me. Try attending Judson High School. The level of worship that these kids are given sickens me. Maybe it's just because I've had several instances where I've been reminded that if you don't play football here, you aren't worth ****.

I was in band throughout middle school, but when I got to the high school, I was told that I couldn't play unless I was in the marching band (to support the football team).

So I quit band and joined the debate team, to which I've devoted myself ever since. We have our budget cut smaller every year, but the football team gets new grass on the field (for several million dollars).

    I can't stand it.

Eric Brown of the Texans is a former Judson student though, so that's kind of cool.

DW Rutledge was the Head Football Coach for Converse Judson for many many years. He was my dad's best friend at Sam Houston High School here locally. He was also a paul bearer at my dad's funeral. We always cheered for the Rockets because of that. I think he is coaching at Texas Lutheran now.

I think Dobie has a good tailback too, or maybe that was last year. I went to school there, but that was 14 years ago, and don't live in Houston anymore so I don't follow it.

    Not that I know of.

    One positive, however:

Wagner High School opens for the 2005-2006 school year.

The way it was before, Judson had three middle schools (4 as of two years ago) from which they could pick the best football talent.

With the opening of Wagner High, some of the students from these 4 middle schools will be diverted there, severely thinning out the talent pool and most likely bringing an end to Judson's football reign.

Maybe they'll finally be forced to give a damn about academics.

    Or maybe not.

I hope they win the State Championship this year. It's my senior year, and it'll probably be their last one for a while.

Katy's RB is your typical Katy RB. He's not heralded, but he gets the job done. He's about 500 yds from breaking the school record and I think 8 TDs or so from breaking the record held my fellow '95 graduate Bill Jatzlau. He ran for over 200 on Saturday and threw a beautiful halfback pass for a TD as well.

I go to school with the guy, and, trust me, he's not anywhere near 235. He's at least 260, and he's a future FB/LB.

If you want to see blue-chip recruits, don't watch Judson. Definitely check them out if you want to see a good team that executes well, though.

Check out the Katy game or Memorial vs. Clear Lake.

    I'll take the bait.

I didn't see Cy-Creek make it. Hell, I haven't seen Cy-Creek get to the playoffs since...ima_drummer2k went to high school.

    Yeah, that was good.

We played Katy last Saturday at Tully, and we lost.
    Sucks.
    Katy at Dobie.
