I think the Rockets may be rushing the Hakeem tribute.

yes, he's unquestionably the Greatest Rocket Ever.

but I think a lot of fans still have significantly mixed emotions about the way he left, and I think that's showing at the ticket office.

the team is struggling to find itself, and the crowds haven't been flooding the turnstiles yet.

I think it might have been better for them to wait another year and do this in the new arena. by then, perhaps the team would have begun to establish more of its own buzz, and Hakeem's night could nicely dovetail in with that.

as it is, it's almost like the organization is hoping a quick Hakeem Tribute Night can get them another one of the 12 sellouts they're looking for this year.

and unfortunately, Hakeem may not be any more up to the task of carrying the franchise in this capacity than he was on the court the last few years.

if it's a sellout, and we all cheer loud and long, and it goes down as a special night, then great. I don't have a single problem with Hakeem getting the love one more time.

but I think there's a strong possibility that the Rockets are jumping the gun and trying to force this too quickly.

Well considering it was hard finding a seat for the Raptors game, some casual fans may be put off. I was disappointed, no Carter dunks, no Dream, but at least we won. But I agree, the retirement is a little too fast. We need at least a year for everything to set in. I know some people, and rightfully so, are still angry at the legend, but hey, it's over now. Well, I really don't care, as long as a statue of the man is placed in front of the new stadium and his old jersey is retired. And it wouldn't hurt to have a street named in his honor, but I'm just getting greedy.:D
