If he doesn't want to sign an extension with Nets, it puts us back in the game.

Is Morey still game for a rental?

First of all, where have you been? Second, wouldn't your logic put us in 2nd?

rental only makes sense if we were competing. What good is it to move up from 10th where we currently are in to the 7th or 8th spot only to lose in the first round and then lose melo to NY?

Actually, we are 11th and you are assuming that we would lose in the 1st rd. Apparently, Morey doesn't think so if he was willing to rent Melo.

At work. Yes it would put us in 2nd if they were not able to agree on a trade with NY. I always put NY ahead because thats where he wants to be.

Maybe we could get to the WCF only to lose to LA in a 7 game series.. And then Melo still leaves for NY. Carlos Beltran flashback :(

Defense wins in the playoffs. Rockets still have a 6'6" C, so teams aren't afraid of getting into the paint.

Lakers and Spurs D would destroy Rockets D.

Carmelo is not going to get his extension AND a trade to the Knicks IMO. I don't see Denver giving into his demands nor should they, especially when they have no intrest in what the Knicks have to offer.

At this point, I think it puts us more in the running to be that third teamwho facilitates a trade rather than be a rental destination. Alot has happened since the first reports of daryl's willingness to rent him for a year, namely the fact the rockets are, at best, going to squeak into the 8th seed.

Depends on how much the Rockets have to give up. If Melo refuses to sign an extension with the Nets, and the Nets rescind their trade offer, the Rockets would only have to beat whatever offers were still on the table, not the Nets offer.

The $$$ Denver would save with Yao's insured contract and a young player or two, along with picks, doesn't totally dismantle the Rockets and yet still is competitive with or better than what the Knicks would offer (Curry, young player, picks)...

IF Melo decides to move on next offseason, a S&T could probably be worked out to regain some of what you lost on the trade. If Yao resigns, then it would that much easier to convince Melo ro resign.

If the Nuggets want too much or expect the Rockets to take on too many bad contracts without Melo signing an extension, then it's a no go.

You have to remember, Melo is not the only player that would be traded. We could probably get Nene in the deal as well.

Rental is OK if we also get Nene in the deal. Nene and Melo and perhaps some other guys like they were willing to give up Billups also. As long as we dont lose Carmleo and have nothing to show for the trade in the offseason. If we do the trade for a rental? Got to include Nene for us. Nene is worth renting Carmelo.

Really wouldn't mind adding JR. Smith as well.

So if Denver won't part with Nene, you'd say no to a Carmelo deal?

Yes.. Carmelo and then him leaving in the offseason gets us nothing. We would need Nene. If not Nene to show for him leaving? Then at least a few like Billups and JR Smith. Or Birdman and JR Smith. Something if he leaves us.

for me it depends - would we have the ability to give him the extra year on the max contract and s&t him to ny after he played here only a few months ? would be a way to recoup some of our losses.

The thing is we really need a guy like Nene. This deal would really be for Nene is Carmelo leaves. We need a center and he is good one. This would be a Rockets deal for Nene. Then later? Carmelos money and Yaos potentially free us for serious cash if Yaos contract isnt used in the deal. If Carmelo leaves.

Then again? S&T in the offseason with Knicks? Gives us more players also to along with Nene after Carmelo leaves. We would have Nene and perhaps Gallo here after we sign and trade to the Knicks.

I've heard that Denver wants to keep Nene. You've been on the Rockets for not having a better SF. And many have criticized the Rockets for be unwilling to take a gamble.

I take it, then, that you don't think Carmelo alone is worth the gamble that he'd stay? I would agree with that, by the way.

The reason why. He seems so dead set on New York. I think its almost 99% he goes there even if traded here for a rental. Then we lose him for very little in a S&T. They probably wont even give us Gallo back if he leaves us for the Knicks. So its not worth it. Its more like a sure thing instead of gamble to me. I am almost completely sure after watching him through this whole process he ends up a Knick now. Even if he is traded.
