link Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace could be the most likely players to be dealt by the Pistons this offseason, according to a report in The Detroit Free Press. Team President Joe Dumars said on Tuesday that he will shake up the team's core this summer. Dumars wants to renew the team's defensive philosophy, with Billups being the team's worst starting defender. Point guard is also a coveted position, and the team believes Rodney Stuckey can be an elite option. Wallace's contract is up next summer, which makes him a nice trade piece for Detroit. Franchises looking to cut costs in the future would love to acquire him for that reason, as would a contender looking to push towards a title in 2008. Could we get Billups for Scola/Luther/BJax/Francis
Ordinarily I would say no, but after hearing Dumars remarks about 'major changes' who knows? That's so stupid though, for Detroit to trade these guys. I just feel like Sheed, Billups, Hamilton, and Prince have had a lot of success together. I don't see how they improve with a trade. When is the last time they didn't make it to at least the ECF? So they would essentially get Scola for Billups. Then whoever they would get for Rasheed (can't be anything TOO amazing, I'm sure his reputation would have an impact on his value). I just don't see it improving their team.
wait, what? all that for Billups? I wonder why everybody is suggesting to trade Scola, I consider our whole starting lineup untouchable unless we get something more than we can ever dream of for Rafer, which, it aint going to happen.
i just cannot comprehend at all why all of a sudden, just cause you get beaten by a stacked team that had refs and the league on their side, and 6 consecutive ECF appearances, and where your best player's suffering an injury, that you just simply decide that that's it. its not like they bombed out or anything. a minor tweak maybe needed to help get them over the hump, but its almost like they think they need to go into a rebuilding phase.
i would rather go for stuckey, and no way they would trade for 3 pgs and scola, 3 washed up pgs for that case. i would give up scola for stuckey tho
their not getting any younger, and they have lost in the east finals in 3 straight years. good for dumars. he's doing the right thing. more importantly, what does everyone think they can get for billups? personally, i would make these two trade for the pistons: 1. sheed ---> bulls for hinrich. bulls draft rose, get out of hinrich's contract and get low post scorer. pistons get one of the best defensive PGs in the league. 2. billups ---> blazers for outlaw, frye, przybilla. blazers can afford to sacrifice depth (they have 20 players under contract) for an elite PG. pistons replenish frontcourt. pryzbilla maxiel prince rip hinrich -------- stuckey frye outlaw
you've got to be kidding. billups is EXACTLY what Yao and Tmac need next to them. Brandon Roy all grown up
Stuckey isn't on the table. Nor would I say is Maxiell or Prince. They are younger talent (though Tay is like 28 now) and work really well together on the court, especially in a run and gun offense. You can build around those three. Rip and Dyess are the two starters that aren't likely to get traded, Rip because he's a huge bargain at his cost with 3 or 4 years left on his contract (and he can create on his own) and Dyess because he has an expiring and is older... also, Dyess is the closest thing they have to someone wanting to lead the team. So that leave Billups and Wallace as the two most valuable assets that the Pistons have to bargain with. Billups isn't cheap, but he isn't expensive either. His contract is at 10 mil and I think it has 3 years left on it. Wallace has something like 12 mil on his contract and it expires after next year. So of course the media is going to say that its most likely that Sheed and Billups are the most likely to be traded. That is only if Dumars actually means it when he says no one is untouchable.
Billups gets a lot of help from Tayshaun as far as defense is concerned. One on one Billups is acceptable but not fantastic. He can be beat on the dribble.
I understand that he may have regressed, but to label him the worst starting defender is kinda...wrong I guess. McBiggidyDice and Rip come to mind as questionble defenders.
I'd chase Billups, and hard. He's only got a couple years left, but it's no different with McGrady. Who knows how much time we have with Yao. If we want to make the jump, we can't stand pat. Chauncy has a poison pill contract (owed hefty money until summer of 2011). Because of that, I don't think his trade value is going to be incredibly out of line. Battier makes no sense if they keep Prince. Landy, Hayes, and Harris make no sense if they keep Maxiell. Alston is a given. Head and Brooks might be acceptable throw ins. Toss in draft picks, and you've got our best offer. I think we're overpaying if we include Scola, but it could be that they demand Scola & Alston to do the deal. Evan
Good reasonable opinion. If Scola would net Billips, I would do it. I think Landry/Hayes vs. Scola/Landry is more manageable than Alston/Brooks. Billips is an excellent pg and 3 point shooter and would mix perfectly with Yao and McGrady. If we are truly committed to the win now with T-Mac and Yao you have to make that trade. Billips is a huge upgrade over Alston. Scola is a marginal upgrade over Landry. We would still have all our expiring and our draft pick to try and upgrade the bench, especially at SG.
my thoughts also but maybe they have to please the fans. sometimes you make a change just to keep the fans happy. i think that's why a lot of coaches are getting fired. someone is getting the blame.
