Lately I've taken to eating whole avocados. Just peel 'em, cut 'em up and put a little salt on there. I've heard they're 100 percent fat though. Let me know if I'm killing myself please.

There are few foods on earth as intoxicatingly luscious as an avocado at the peak of its ripeness. Unfortunately, because of its high fat content (just a third of an avocado contains around 9 grams of fat), many weight watchers avoid it. What they don't realize is that most of an avocado's fat is the cholesterol-lowering, monounsaturated kind - what is often called "healthy fat." In addition, this fruit (that's right - the avocado is a fruit, not a vegetable) is rich in vitamin E, potassium, fiber, folate, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid and a host of minerals. This makes avocados one of the best splurges for those who are weight conscious - it's certainly far better for you than a slice of cake or French fries! There are countless ways to serve avocados - it's easy enough to put a few slices in your omelet, on a burger (hopefully a lean turkey burger), in a salad or mash a couple of them up into guacamole. But they are also tasty just by themselves. And their calorie content isn't as high as you'd think - that third of a medium avocado comes in at approximately 100 calories, and because of its fat content it's a very satisfying snack. So next time you're in the mood for something richer than your usual fare, instead of grabbing a box of cookies, reach for a ripe avocado.

Thank you Behad...your check from the Avacodo Growers of America should arrive in a couple of weeks. :)

The only problem is that when avacados aren't in season, they're expensive...and you can't stock up on them when they're out of season because they go bad pretty quickly. .

Those big green ones are nasty, too...

    Avocado

The word originated from South American Indian language where it originally meant " testicle ". The Spanish conquistadors took the word back to Spain where it became altered to literally mean " advocate ". The English borrowed the word and altered it to become " alligator pear ".

I guess you can relate "advocate" to "testify". You know why they call it "testify"? In the olden days, when people would swear upon something (testify), they would grab their balls (testicles), a sign that their word is as good as their manhood and they are willing to swear by it. A lil sumpin I picked up from that crazy Professor Baker at UT.

Thin slice some avocados, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Spread them on a plate and sprinkle with some olive oil, vinegar, some fresh oregano, some Feta cheese and some good black olives... make sure it's organic so it tastes like something and enjoy. My favorite salad. :)

(I'm sure it can be improved upon, but man, it's good!)

I have discovered an easy way to avoid getting fat from eating avocados... I find them disgusting and I don't eat them. :)

Avocados probably are far more benefitial for you that harmful. If that is all you ate (see below), then it probably would not be good for you--but I think it would be hard to eat too many of them.

Yes there is such a thing as healthy fats. In fact studies are increasinly coming out that refined carbos (sugar, breads, pastas, potatos) are a bigger problem in Americans normal diets than fats. Further the really healthy fats include avocados, olive oil and most nuts--they overall are a good thing to increase in your diet. In fact it would probably be really hard to get too much non-hydrogenatied polyunsaturated fats in your diet--but Freak if all you are eating is 3 avocados per day and nothing else that probably isn't such a good thing.

Stay away from hydrogenated oils (trans fats) like the plague, limit your refined carbos severely, and somewhat limit your saturated fats--if you do these things you will probably have a fairly healthy overall diet.

    From Word Origins:

"There is bit of folklore floating about that the word testify (with its associated forms like testimony and testament) derives from testicle. The legend has it that ancient Romans would hold their testes while swearing oaths. This is not true. The word does not derive from testicle, nor did Romans swear oaths on their private parts.

Testify, et. al., derives from the Latin testis meaning witness. Testicle also derives from testis. The testes are witnesses to a man's virility. "
