I would like to believe that we've been visited mostly because it would mean that you actually could get here from there. Right now, the laws of physics being what they are and the distances being what they are, it doesn't seem as if interstellar travel is possible.
I dont know if we have been visited, but I do think their is other life out there. Theres billions of galaxies in space, i'm sure there are more lifeforms out there. I think the gov't would cover it up, fearing mass panic mode across the nation. If the gov't came out and admitted it, it would be mixed reactions. I dont think it would hurt religions, I dont see why the economy would crash..., some people would panic while others say whatever.
I think aliens have observed our planet, and seen what our people are like, naive, stubborn, and would probably kill them instantly. I don't think they are landing and visiting, just observing. Imagine if they say, just picked a spot to observe us at, there's always a War or Genocide happening in the world, I wouldn't want to be around that either.
Something I just thought about...what if Roswell is real, but its an isolated incident. Maybe this space craft wasnt even supposed to come to earth, something went wrong...it happened to crash on our planet. If the gov't came out and said ya Roswell happened, all those UFO reports would prob make everyone believe what they are seeing a UFO possibly freaking everyone out.
Another theory is that they are not interstellar travelers but time travelers. The future evolution of humans (or some other species) that inhabited earth and evolved. It would be like us traveling back in time to visit and observe dinosaurs.

It would not surprise me as for the laws of Physics. . . 1000 yrs ago seems like going to america was near impossible . . . what about radio transmissions? etc? are aliens visiting our planet? hmmm, maybe no. but it's possible. is there life on other planets. I think there has to be. There is life on ours. Why not other planets in other galaxies? They might be visiting our planet now, but theyre just too small for us to see.
As we study remote rain forests in Ecuador and use our telescopes to investigate far off worlds -- others are in some way viewing our planet for the same purposes.
