Disneyland goes to war-torn Iraq, with a multi-million dollar entertainment complex, to be built on a 50 acre lot adjacent to the Green Zone. The American-style amusement park will feature a skateboard park, rides, a concert theatre and a museum. The occupation forces are of the opinion that Baghdad is "lacking in entertainment". General David Petraeus, is said to be a “big supporter” of bringing Disneyland to Baghdad. Supported by the Pentagon, an unknown Los Angeles based holding company C3 of private equity investors, will be developing the "Baghdad Zoo and Entertainment Experience". The park will be designed by Ride and Show Engineering (RSE) RSE founders Eduard Feuer and William Watkins pioneered Walt Disney's "Imagineering", the design and engineering division of the Walt Disney Company, before setting up RSE as a separate corporate entity. RSE has developed numerous large scale entertainment complexes around the world including a project at the Anaheim California Disney Complex. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=viewArticle&code=20080428&articleId=8837
I actually have a slightly different view. If high-stress troops are able to use it, and it can releave stress and prevents any of the incidents where soldiers flip out and kill innocent Iraqi's then a 'multi-million dollar' facility is worth it. I don't know whether the appropriate troops will get a chance to see it, but if it is used for more than just desk-bound support staff, then it can actually serve a legitimate and real purpose. If they (troops) are going to be there (Iraq), then we should be very serious about doing things to help them to relieve their stress for any number of reasons.
If Baghdad had clean water and power 24/7 I'd say go for it. That is not the case... and between building the worlds largest embassy and taking over Saddam's palaces, it's hard to convey that we're liberators and not occupiers. Or have we given up that charade?
just trynna keep it fresh in here, tired of seeing the tibet thing LOL Im off for the weekend,so you wont see no more threads until monday.
why would disney do this? seriously, is this another corporation the government wants to issue a big contract to? WTF
Oh no, the big bad corporation again trying to rebuild a zoo in Iraq. It's Halliburton all over again.
You wouldn't be able to distinguish Minney and Daisy from their veils. And Sleeping Beauty just keeps sleeping for some reason.
Wow!! Maybe we can also have a Chucky Cheese and our troops can take some of the tens of thousands of cute little Iraqi orphans they have created to see the darling little puppets and eat pizza. Of course the orphans will have to pledge allegiance to the USA, the occupation, Maliki, or whatever faction we are backing that month. Got to be sure the orphans don't want revenge on the killers of their parents. We will need to spend some considerable bucks cleaning up and feeding the scraggly orphans so they look good enough for US media, but for the right cost-plus price Halliburton will be glad to do it. Our troops in full protection gear taking the orphans to Disney World and Chucky Cheese can be on the nightly news as a feel good Iraqi news item. It can win some hearts and minds in Iraq and more importantly in the US. It can take the place of the old retired generals who are spoon fed what to say as TV military analysts, now that they have been discredited to all but the neo-cons and their fellow travelers who believe the American people need to be deceived. Going to Chucky Cheese and Disney with Iraqi orphans can make the troops feel more like they are at home with their own families so they don't brutalize as many Iraqis. Cool. PS I know that the troops as individuals are mostly kind normal folk, but the fact is that there efforts have led to the deaths of many Iraqis and the brutalization of their existence, though atrocities like Abu Graib are not the rule.
Actually, unless I'm missing something...Disney isn't involved with this. It's being called a "Disneyland" but I don't see where Disney is the one doing this. Did I miss it?
I think you are right. I believe it is a bunch of advanture capitalists who think this is a good way to make a good return on investment(hightly doubtful).
