    SHARPTON RAPS OBAMA
By CHUCK BENNETT and KAVITA MOKHA

AL BE DARNED: Al Sharpton, with Nicole Paultre-Bell yesterday, was furious over Barack Obama's reaction to the Sean Bell verdict, sources said.

    April 29, 2008 --

Barack Obama made a call for nonviolence in the aftermath of the Sean Bell verdict - infuriating the Rev. Al Sharpton, who accused the presidential candidate of trying to "grandstand in front of white people," sources told The Post.

During what a source described as a "heated" phone call yesterday, Sharpton told Obama he was disappointed with the Illinois senator's words on Friday, when Obama said "resorting to violence to express displeasure" was "completely unacceptable and counterproductive."

"[Obama] issues this statement and not a single rock had been thrown," said a source. "How does the candidate of change ask people to accept a verdict that is unjust?"

The source said Sharpton had hoped Obama would "side with the Bell family" and not use it as an "opportunity to grandstand in front of white people."

An Obama spokesman described the conversation as a chance to "hear [Sharpton's] views and to get his perspective."

Sharpton ratcheted up the pressure on federal prosecutors yesterday by bringing Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, to Kalua, the Queens strip club where the Nov. 25, 2006 shooting took place.

"We are going to put together a federal strategy on how to deal with the case," Conyers said.

Also yesterday, Queens Supreme Court Justice Arthur Cooperman, who rendered the not-guilty verdict, refused to comment on his decision.

"He said what he had to say on the bench," his law clerk said.

the Sean Bell killing was wrong in so many ways, just as the verdict, but why does Sharpton feel the need to grandstand against Obama

Im for Clinton, but damn people keep sh!din on Obama

Obama needs to figure out how to act instead of how to speak or he will get screwed up with mixed signals.

OHHH.... So that's why you've chosen to grace us with daily dirt updates on Obama...

    Thanks!

If you're lucky, your candidate will win the nomination! Of course, at this point she can only do so through an incredibly nasty coup that will leave the Democratic party divided for many years to come and result in a virtual third term for Bush in the name of McCain, but what do you care right?

Can't wait to see what you have in store for April 30!

Here's a preview for November 4 (pre-formatted in your awesome trademark style, complete with ALL CAPS to signify the exciting BREAKING NEWS):

Nov 4 - BLACKS, "LATTE LIBERALS," BATMAN JONES AND ALL DEMOCRATS WHO REFUSE TO REWARD GUTTER POLITICS AND AMBITION OVER PARTY STAY HOME IN DROVES

Way to make me look like a dick by being totally reasonable.

No need to try to be "fair and balanced." There's no such thing anyway. Speak your mind and I will too. I just thought it was curious that we were suddenly getting new threads (complete with headline dates) that were all good news for Clinton or bad news for Obama.

I look forward to being on the same team for the general. That is, if Obama wins. If Hillary does, you're on your own.

I think Obama is shooting himself in the foot everyday now. He's not ready to be president. He's more jimmy carter then JFK.

I guess I'll have to vote for McCain.

I won't go that far yet, but he has to adjust to the increased scrutiny of being a front runner. His status with the African American community is far from set, and despite this, Republicans will look to any means of making him The Black Candidate to alienate him from White working voters.

I think these black old guards are all jealous of Obama.

I think black leaders who still supports Obama should come out and support him.

its definitely a case of out with the old in with the new. its funny, every now and then you will get a thread with some non black person or pouhe ranting about how black people can stand behind sharpton. it always upsets me that people believe blacks in this country are in step with sharpton because sharpton gets airtime. obama needs to realize most of the black people who are going to vote couldn't care less about the politics of sharpton, wright, jackson, etc. its not that they don't respect what these guys have fought for, its just time to change up the conversation these guys are simply living in the past. they don't realize you can't just firebomb anymore. you can't apply the same logic to every situation.

I agree. In the aftermath of the Rev. Wright controversy Al Sharpton criticizing Obama is one of the best things that could happen to Obama. If I were Obama's campaign strategist I would play this up.

Gotta agree with this sentiment. Though I'll vote for him anyway.
