Every now and then, like right now, my Apple mail account will start bouncing in the dock saying I need to re-enter my password.

    What gives?

You probably have it set to check your mail every 10 minutes or so and your password is not saved in keychain. Make sure you click the "save to keychain" option.

    I did that.

I'm starting to think it's a Time Warner problem. It says the server is rejecting my password.

But I'm still able to surf the net obviously.

    Try this...

If Mail keeps asking you for your keychain password, try the suggestions below:

    * If you've set your keychain to lock after a period of time, or when your computer goes to sleep, your keychain is locked, and you'll see a message asking for your keychain password. To change your keychain settings, open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities (or click the link below). Select a keychain and choose Edit > Change Settings for Keychain <keychain name>. Deselect "Lock after <number of minutes> of inactivity" and "Lock when sleeping."

    * Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities (or click the link below). Choose Window > Keychain First Aid. Select a mail account and click Verify, then click the Start button. A log appears listing errors. Click Repair, then click the Start button.

Thanks. I'll print that out and use it again the next time it happens. Everything seems to be working properly now.

I don't think it's a keychain problem -- it's probably just a flaky mail server. It happens with my Comcast account occasionally as well.

If you hit "Cancel" without entering your password, the name of the mailbox will gray out and a gray lightning bolt shape will appear next to the name. Click it and it'll go online again. (It's also in the "Mailbox > Online Status" menu.)

Yep. I have the same problem with road runner once in while on my windows box. That's why I set up my own mail server.
