I am looking to purchase my first apple computer. I have used them but never owned them. I am familiar but not overly so So . . . . . I am looking for something that will help with my video editing more than anything Low Cost - Good Ram - I think I will have to just settle for external storage and maybe a docking station (They don't seem to do scandisks and only a few USB ports) MacBook Pro - - 16 gb Ram - 8core CPU/8 core GPU/16core Neural Engine -13 inch monitor but I can get external monitors (dockingstation) - - 512 gb1700$ iMAc - 16 gb ram - 8core cpu (4 performance and 4 efficiency) 7cor egpu and 16 core neural engine - 256 gb hardrive - 24 inch monitor - 1500$ MacMini - 16 gb ram - 8core CPU/8 core GPU/16core Neural Engine - No Monitor/keyboard/mouse - 512 gb hardrive - mi chip - 1100$ Laptop - Desktop - Mac Mini What is the best BANG for the Buck . Addressing the point of 'only a few USB ports', a Thunderbolt 3 port gives you massive bandwidth (up to 40Gb/s) and flexibility when paired with the right dock for charging, data transfer, and video display output. One Thunderbolt 3 port can be paired with a dock like this to use with your existing peripherals: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1434943-REG/caldigit_500561_ts3_thunderbolt_3_docking.html There are cheaper docks as well, but this is one of the most highly regarded ones. These new Macs are even more future proof with USB 4. Still waiting for Thunderbolt 4 though. It's quite a bit confusing, so refer to an article like this for the lowdown: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/what-is-thunderbolt-4-why-this-new-interface-will-matter-in-pcs-in-2021 If you have multiple PCs, I would also recommend a Logitech MX Keys keyboard and MX Master mouse. You can wirelessly sync them with up to 3 computers. I use that keyboard/mouse combo with my work Thinkpad, gaming PC, and Macbook. No futzing around with KVM switches.
I bought a Mac Plus with a bunch of accessories and programs for $150 in the mid-90s -- the guy I got it from paid almost 5k for everything around 87-- the Mac+ had 1 MB of RAM. I think that amount of memory and the overall build quality of the machine was groundbreaking at the time.
Do not. I repeat do not purchase a Mac unless it has their own chip. Much better value regardless of it’s a few hundred more dollars.
Wait. The 14inch and the 16 inch MacBook Pros with the M2 Processor will be out 2nd half of this year. More Ram support, More ports, and better graphic performance. It is also a redesign for the MacBook Pro. I'm waiting for this.
This is good info to have. . .. we talking Nov? or Sept? How much more will they cost? Trying to stay under 2k Rocket River
I dunno if I wanna wait on the M2s . . . . .. I mean I want too but I am impatient as f*ck and I am handing down my current computer to my son next month. I could get a PC of some value for like 500~1000K but I am kind of ready to try the Apple brand . .. I heard great things about the audio and video and I don't want many issues or problems Premeire Pro crashes and bogs down unless I blow out the RAM to about 32GB or more Word is MACs will fly with 16GM with this M1 installed Rocket River
Look for the Apple Refurbished section in the Apple site. It's way at the bottom because they want to keep the good deals a secret. https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished
I work in broadcast and all the editors around me (who have years or decades of experience) all recommended the MacBook Pro with the m1 chip so that's what I bought last month. I like it. You can get a free version of DaVinci Resolve and it runs great on the MacBook Pro. Resolve is slowly replacing Premier in a lot of places as the editor of choice.
I think I might get a 699 Mac Mini and Then Wait on the the New Mac Pro with the M1/M2 drive to come out in November Rocket River
