Ive been told you can buy the phone straight from the manufactor unlocked to use w tmobile.
I thought Apple did the press release for the iPhone so early simply because they didn't want information leaking when they went to the FCC to get the phones approved for market. Until the phones have been approved, they can't sell them, hence the Summer release date.
is the unlocked T-mobile iphone rumor true? i'm considering switching to cingular later, but if it can be bought unlocked that would be sweet.
I'd think it's pretty unlikely. Apple and Cingular have an exclusive deal for 2 years. Apple lawyers are some of the most aggressive out there, so expect them to go after EBay sales and the like. I have heard that Cingular is considering offering to pay the cancellation fees of people who break contracts from other services to get the iPhone. They can afford to do this because Apple won't allow them to subsidize the purchase price of the phone.
