There's a lot of speculation out there what the "big" announcement by Apple will be today. I'm sure it'll be something else I can't afford right now. Apple "Special Event" Prognostication Posted by Jason D. O'Grady @ 4:53 am Apple has invited the press to a special event at 10:00 AM Pacific Time (today) at the Apple Town Hall on the company's Cupertino campus. "Come see some fun new products from Apple" the invitation reads. Speculation is running rampant about what is going to be announced at (today's) event but four things are possible: - A "true" video iPod. Some speculate that Apple will announce a landscape, full-screen iPod with a virtual click wheel. Apple has filed for several touch-sensitive patents of late which add credence to the full-screen iPod rumor. - iTunes Movie Store. You'll need content to watch on the new iPod HD (or whatever it will be called) so this would be likely announced at the same time as the iPod. - Intel-based Mac mini. Costing less than US$500 the new Mac mini will have a 1.67GHz Intel Core Solo processor, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, FrontRow software and remote control and a built-in iSight camera. - 13-inch widescreen iBook. It may be rebadged as "MacBook" and will ship with a 13.3-inch display and share almost identical specs to the MacBook: 1.67GHz Intel Core Solo processor, FrontRow software and remote control and a built-in iSight camera. It's unclear if the Mac hardware will debut at tomorrow's event, or at another event closer to the Spring. It's also worth noting that Apple's 30th anniversary is on April 1, 2006 and the may roll out a special Thirtieth Anniversary Mac to mark the occasion. link
I hope it's this because I've been waiting to get a new Ipod for "fear" they will come out with a significantly upgraded one before then...
I hope not, I ordered a new ipod video, should be coming today or tommorow actually no biggie, I think the one I got will suit me just fine.
If you ordered it from Apple they'll give you a refund for it if you want to get the new one. When I bought my first iPod they announced upgraded versions a week later, when I called they offered to give me $100 back (the difference between the old price of mine and the new price) or I could send it back for a full refund.
Maybe this has something to do with it: http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?NewsID=13967&Page=1&pagePos=1 Wireless iPod a 'sensible move' By Macworld staff Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs grabbed an iPod-related headline this week, saying that developing a WiFi iPod would be a sensible move for Apple. Reuters explains that Jacobs believes that developing a wireless iPod would help Apple see off competition from mobile phone manufacturers. "It makes sense to me that they would see the phone as potential competition...To me having the wide area (wireless) connection is really a cool thing," he said, adding that he has no inside track as to whether such a device is planned. Apple's supplier PortalPlayer recently revealed itself to be developing wireless technologies for media players, presumably including iPods.
Nothing yet, but the Apple Store is down. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore/
From www.macrumorslive.com/web Jobs introduced the new Intel-based Mac mini, Apple's low-cost consumer desktop system. The base model features an Intel Core Solo CPU -- a single-processor, single-core CPU. But the company is also introducing a Mac mini that features Intel's Core Duo processor -- the same kind of CPU that powers the iMac and MacBook Pro.
The redesigned Mac mini features gigabit Ethernet, a total of four USB 2.0 ports, analog and SPDIF audio outputs and more. "And, of course, you can also hook it up to televisions," Jobs told the audience. It's been widely speculated that Apple might use today's event to introduce a Mac model with better home entertainment integration. The new Mac mini, like its iMac sibling, features Front Row, an application that makes it possible to view movies, listen to audio, watch music videos and more from your Mac, in full-screen, using an infrared remote control from across the room. The Mac mini now sports an infrared sensor in the front of the Mac min, next to the machine's optical disk drive slot. As demonstrated by Jobs, Front Row now has a new feature -- the ability to support shared music libraries accessible through iTunes. So using Front Row, you can listen to the contents of other machines running iTunes on the same subnetwork.
this makes a lot of sense. i am employing a mac mini and to do all those things. i kind of had to rig it a bit and i don't think i am maximizing its output ability. the SPDIF audio outputs should vastly improve the sound quality. i go straight through the headphone jack into the back of my amp and the signal is weak. it sounds good but it's definately the weak link in my system. i also had to turn up the volume adjustment on all songs in itunes to play as loudly as the other input devices. hmmm, looks like i might have to spend some more money.
I like the specs on the new Mac mini. I had the first model for a time (the slower one), and it was too sluggish to do much with it. But I will almost definitely buy one of these ones.
"So, what've we talked about today? Some really cool products, a new Mac mini that runs 5x faster... Front Row with Bonjour, update will go out later this week... iPod cases, they're really, really nice. And, of course, the new iPod Hi-Fi." That's it.
I hope it's not a new iPod. I got the video right when it came out, and I reasonably figured that it'd be a while before a newer version came out. Look how long it was between the original, the picture, and the video. I'd wanna have the newest and best because I love iPods, and I'd probably be petty like that.
I don't understand the concept of "mini" Isn't it just called a laptop, without a screen and keyboard?
