Hey guys so I moved out of my apartment on the last day of November My lease was for 12 months. My contract mentioned a 60 day notice to vacate. I gave a 50 day notice ( i didnt know if i was staying or leaving due to my job)and therefore I was charged a relating fee of 590 plus 10 days worth of rent as well as my last months gas and water bill. Threfore a grand total of about 800 dollars is now owed to the property. My rent was a special of 510 with 690 being the regular rent rate.

When I moved out no one mentioned this to me and I was under the impression that I was getting my security deposit back. So I called corporate office asking about my deposit and they mentioned I have a outstanding balance.

I know it's my fault for not reading the contract. But don't you think that someone at the office could have mentioned the reletting fee to me whilemi gave my move out notice. I understood thenpartnabout 10 days rent. Idk

If it's in the contract, you're pretty much screwed and have to pay that amount. It'll be an expensive learning lesson for you.

Edit: You gave them a 50 day notice? Did you put it in writing?

Also, if I understood this correctly, you moved out 10 days short of your lease ending?

Yeah, even though you moved out on the right date they can still charge you. The thing about that, is they can't charge anymore than 85% of your rent. You can let them know your rent was only $510 not $690 and hopefully it'll go down a little bit. Other than that, just hope the Apartment works it out with you. That sucks that they can charge you that for notifying them 10 days short of the required 60 days, but it was in the contract. Just take it as a lesson learn.
