Bad news on T-Mac. I hate that word: Indefeinitely. At least it seems Bonzi might play as soon as tonight.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Rockets star Tracy McGrady is out indefinitely with back spasms and was scratched from Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 6-foot-8 forward missed 35 games last season with back problems, and coach Jeff Van Gundy said Tuesday he did not know how long McGrady will be sidelined this time.

Luther Head will make his first start of the season in McGrady's place, Van Gundy said. Head is averaging 9.8 points and is Houston's most accurate 3-point shooter (50.5 percent).

McGrady, a six-time All-Star, hurt his back midway through the fourth quarter of Saturday's game against Washington. He scored 28 points before leaving the court and limping to the locker room.

Van Gundy said Bonzi Wells might play Tuesday night after sitting out the last month. Wells signed a two-year, $5 million contract, but Van Gundy acknowledged Monday the two have "struggled to find common ground" since Wells arrived at training camp.

Van Gundy said Wells would play against the Lakers "if I think it's in the best interest of the team."

"I'm not going to focus a lot of my attention on his situation," Van Gundy said. "If it works, it works, it's going to be great. If it doesn't, it doesn't."

this is B.S. I am not sure whether their info is accurate. I thought Tmac was listed day-to-day and he is "questionable" for tonight ("questionable" is much better than "doubtful")

bad news about tmac. hopefully we can pull out a few wins without him (assuming he misses about a week).

it's going to be hard NOT to play bonzi. consider that we can go with a 3 guard rotation (rafer, head, and billy subbing for both), and our bigs are set (yao, deke, hayes, howard). who backs up shane?

    padgett, novak, or bonzi.

    How is this BS??

We already knew he was going to be out tonight. AP got the news and just now released the information. I hope it's nothing too serious. I thought Keith said he responded well with the medication/stretching. But I knew this was coming sooner or later. It was not going to be a perfect season :(

So are they saying Bonzi will get some floor time tonight? or eventually? I hope JVG throws him out there if we begin to struggle. we need him specially if yao gets into foul trouble.

Facing the truth of the matter! If one has followed Tracy through last season and paid attention to all the medical opinions, then you would know that Tracy is damaged goods and that his future basketball game would be one of reoccuring back problems. Not that he won't be able to have a decent game but that it will be a different one versus the old high flying one of the past. Tracy can still play a role as possibly the best playmaker in the NBA but should not be expected to be a great scorer as in years gone by. If Bonzi doesn't work out we will need an additional scorer next season.

Agree, but for that kind of money we are paying him, we are kind of doomed! :(

We should be glad that we are a much deeper team compare to last year.

I'm a big TMac fan, but I think the franchise needs to start moving in the direction of a buyout/retirement for him, so we can have the cap space to replace him (Vince Carter? Rashard Lewis?). You just can't win a championship when your second best player is this fragile.

$4.5 million contract. Nice to have a job where you can be off by $500K+ and still have a job.
