Anderson interested in talking to Rockets

    Associated Press

HOUSTON - Free agent Derek Anderson is interested in talking to the Houston Rockets as he tries to find a new basketball home.

"There's more money out there, but I want a chance to win as well," Anderson said in a telephone interview with Houston television station KRIV. "I just want to be able to play and be comfortable."

Anderson was released by the Portland Trail Blazers under the NBA's new amnesty clause. His agent, Tony Dutt, says several teams have expressed interest.

Anderson said he is trying to set up a meeting with the Rockets as soon as possible.

He said he would love to play with players like Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady and Stromile Swift.

"I've always wanted to play with a great center," he said. "Coming in the same year Tracy did, we have a good relationship. I've actually watched Stromile grow. I think it's just a good fit."

The eight-year NBA veteran averaged 9.2 points and three assists in 47 games with the Blazers last season but had a variety of injuries, including back spasms.

In his four seasons with Portland, Anderson averaged 12 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 244 games.

I would imagine that DA would fight or share time with Wesley instead of Sura.

Not to doubt you or anything, but why? Wesley would be awesome coming off the bench.

Positive news. DA would be a good addition to the team. If the difference between the MLE and LLE is only like a million dollars, then I think we have a great chance of landing him. He lives here and he will get a chance to play again.

Ya he would, but I think that's what we have Barry for. Plus, I think Wesley with his expiring contract could net us a good backup for TMac like Eric Williams.

I agree with you Mr. Boo...but we re-signed Barry to be our backup SG. We need to trim our roster a little bit. We could package Wesley with another player in exchange for a true PG or backup SF...

I see both your points now clearly. My bad for forgetting about JB. You guys are right on with your assessments.

exactly. Thats what i'm rooting for.

the other possibility is that DA or spree is the backup for tmac and wesley will be starting again.

Always been a big fan of DA's game. If he can stay healthy for at least 60+ games for us, would love to have him.

Well, I guess that settles the debate. Tim Duncan is a power forward, not a center. Guess it also doubles as a veiled shot at Robinson.

Yeah, San Antonio is definitely not an option for him. I think he burned his bridges when he bailed on them after one year.

    Career 13 pt/game, 34% 3PT, 85% FT, 3 reb and 3 assists per game.....decent numbers for a backup we desperately need.

That would be awesome if we land DA!

DA is the best and youngest of all the potential free-agents...ao he's worth what he's gonna get paid...now we need a real point guard...and this team is set...though gettting rid of Ward, Sura, and Wesley should be a priority...i hate them all...they all play the same game...they instead comliment each other...actually my bad Ward does'nt actually do anything at all...he's worthless.
