Interesting take on the streak and how the Rockets have been winning.

Crow and eggs for breakfast this morning: Houston is alive. The win streak has hit 18 after Saturday's 10-point victory over the Hornets; the Rockets would be the third seed if the season ended today. The team's 6-0 since Yao Ming's season ended.

Six games ago, I jumped to the conclusion the Rockets would fall off and miss the postseason. Last week, I projected March would be painful for Houston. Wrong -- very, very wrong -- on both counts. How have the Rockets stayed alive? Vicious, vicious offense, led (of course) by Tracy McGrady. Here are the offensive ratings (points scored, adjusted to 100 possessions) for Houston's last six games. (Keep in mind the total league average is around 107.)

    vs New Orleans, 119.1 ORtg
    at Dallas, 127.0 ORtg
    vs Indiana, 120.6 ORtg
    vs Denver, 110.8 ORtg
    vs Memphis, 117.2 ORtg
    vs Washington, 108.0 ORtg

What's better? The defense, ranked #2 upon Yao's departure, hasn't slipped. (Ladies and gentlemen, Dikembe Mutombo.)

Denver sits five games behind Houston, the team they thought they'd catch. Time for Plan B -- Houston might be here to stay. (Of course, they could still have an 0-5 week later this month. The NBA: Where 'This is %@$#ing bananas' happens.)

Very interesting take. I like it. I just think, even without Yao, there's NO WAY this team is going to 0-5 in that stretch.

    What do you guys think?

Rockets have caught playoff bound teams either without key players or in slumps.

Sweep the Lakers, Boston, Hornets (West back, Birdman back, away game), Warriors, and Suns in that stretch then there's genuine hope of contending for the championship.

It'll be hard. The Rockets are the hottest team in the league. The above teams might use the encounters as mock playoff games.

The Rockets didn't just beat those teams, they blew them out. That's a huge difference. I guess they just have to keep winning to show everyone what's up.

If everybody is healthy, I don't think so (knock on wood). We do have some tough games coming but not 5 in a row and that's assuming Denver could win at least 5 in a row.

    Lakers
    Celtics
    Hornets (away)
    Warriors (away)
    Suns (away)

    That's 5. In a row.

So you're saying that in order to create genuine hope for a championship, they have to SWEEP four West playoff teams and an East team which happens to have the best record in the league. Five games in seven nights, no less. Likely on their way to 26 straight wins in a row.

I would say you might want to lower your standards just a bit. NOBODY in the NBA would sweep that 5 game stretch, even the Lakers or the Celtics (if you replaced them in their own schedule with the next best team, of course).

If you play a team twice during their 18 game win streak.........you might be in a slump!!!! Jeff Foxworthy :D

    EEEEK!

Lakers are beatable too. They proved they don't have the defense to stop a team like the Kings. Lets hope that the Rockets can maintain their hot offense by Lakers time.

We were close in Boston when we weren't playing that well. This could be a battle of two big streaks!

Hornets will be pissed from the smack talk & they've shown they can compete. With a home crowd behind them, they might be scary.

Warriors are iffy & could respond to a challenge of trying to "bring down" a hot team.

Suns have shown they are beatable as they're still getting acclimated to Shaq, but he is coming on strong.

alot of you are either not watching all rockets games or just looking at the final score.

If my memory serve me correctly Rockets has been in the pass couple of years being playing great and winning huge games and beating teams.

The only probelm which we had was that we have problems closing them. remember how we away lead by double digit in half time, 3rd quarter, and all of sudden endup losing?

JVG taught us the D, but he fails to addr the O. RA came in and teaches O to us. now not only we were able to lead in double figure we can close them with our O.

I think our biggest challenge is the mid-march playing lakers, boston, spurs...

I posted in some thread a month or so ago that that five game stretch would be the test to see if we were any good, when we still had Yao.

Now I feel even more confident that we will come out of those five games with a winning record. The first two are really the only two I am worried about. Wee've proved we can beat the likes of PHX, GS, and NO.

I think we've solved this problem. Since Yao was out and BJ signed, Rockets did not have any 4th quater collapse. They were blowing out people in the 4th. If Landry comes back, we will be even better.
