Im still going to school, and my current job pays minimum wage. I was wondering how much do banks pay, and do they hire students. what kind of position would they offer. are the hours flexible?
Well as someone who used to work at a credit union (worked there from August 1997 to November 1999), I can tell you that banks (and credit unions) don't pay well - at least not to their tellers and loan officers (which I did both). I got paid $6.75 per hour (and that was a .25 increase over most beginning tellers because I had a degree!) and by the time I left, I was making almost $20K as a loan officer. Yea, it sucked. I would say that in 8 years time and in a city like Houston which has a higher cost of living, you might get started out between 8 and 9 bucks an hour but it could be lower. From my experience, banks and credit unions were always looking to hire (they have big turnover mainly due to their crappy wages and working you like a dog) and they welcomed the hiring of students as part-timers.
i heard the opposite. One of my friend works at J.P. Morgan in Dallas, and he got paid extremely well. Go on J.P. Morgan's website and search for jobs in Houston area, I'm sure they have some openings.
I've never been to a bank that didn't have at least one hot teller, so there are probably fringe benefits. Of course, to get the REAL money, you have to make some unscheduled withdrawls (hint hint)...
i workd for 3 diff banks. IBC , Wells Fargo, and wamu. IBC starts off at like 7 50 and wells fargo about 8 and wamu about 8.50. Also know that since banks are all retail u will be forced to sell products to ppl who you know will not want an extra savings or checking account. IBC is by far the worst . U have to have 20 "referrals" a month, which is nearly impossible for an average person. Wells fargo also has referrals and they are based on 3 month projections. Wamu is by far the easiest to get referrals. Pretty much they will hire anyone with retail or cash handling skills and most of the hours are pretty flexible. hours are usually 8 to 6 on average. starting job would be a teller and its a pretty easy job. the only reason why ppl leave are referrals or the managers that u have to deal with. hope that helps
I worked at Amegy Bank back when it was Southwest Bank of Texas from September 2000 to January 2003 and was making $11.50 an hour as a teller. I was also a student. About half the tellers thre were students. They also provide $2500 a year in tuition reimbursement.
take deposits, give out money, make money orders, convince ppl they need an extra savings or checking accounts, b the guy customers b**** at cuase u charged them 30 dollars for overdrafting 20 cents on thier account.
last time I was a teller in 1999 I made $10.50 an hr. that wasn't high. I guess wages haven't gone up much in 9 years. I made that much in 97-98 but I was getting a $1.00 premium to be a floating teller. I liked being a teller btw in college. helped me get a good banking job out of school also if you're interested in finance, anything like that, even teller, looks good on the resume.
My friend works as a teller at Wachovia, I think they start at 10. He says it's real easy and once tried to get me a job there, but I didn't meet their "criteria."
I worked in a bank years ago and we were robbed at gunpoint. I quit the next week and haven't gone inside a bank since.
Uh...no. There are these things called drive-thru's that allow you to put money in your account without actually going in. And these other things called debit cards that allow you to take money out of your account without actually going in. That plus direct deposit = me never going inside a bank.
im not really interested in finance. im a business major. i just need something right now so i can finance my trip to europe next summer.
My fiancee works part time at a Wachovia Bank by her house. Its pretty nice I think $10+ an hour plus over time if you full time of course & on top of that they are paying for all of her school including books. She got the job becuase one of her cusions hooked her up and has been working for Wachovia for over 2 years or somthing like that.
I never was robbed, luckily, I was a teller for three and a half years. I knew this chick who opened up the bank she worked at in the mornings and these dudes hid in the bushes one day and robbed her as she went in with someone else. a girl i trained with was robbed in her first month.
