The USA has 4 points and only needs a draw to advance, they actually were leading the Netherlands 2-1 in the 93rd minute before the Dutch got the equalizer on a free kick just under our guys wall (really shoddy wall if you ask me)..... But more impressive is Freddy Adu making some amazing one touch passes to streaking players....again.... If the USA can keep him and Altidore and include them with Donavan...our World cup run in about 2 years could be much more interesting. U S A....U S A....U S A...... DD
I've watched as many of the games as I can. The US at 4 points is a huge boost to our chances. The fact that we were 30 seconds from clinching a place in the quarters in our second game is a testament to our team. We were expected to finish no higher than third. Now, needing only a point from the Nigeria game, I like our chances to advance. I wouldn't count out Japan knocking off the Dutch, either.
lol the world cup is on a different plant from the olympics.... Look at my country for example...Brasil. We have 5 WC titles and zero olympic titles...Its the only title we have never won. The closest we got was in 96 when we were elimanted from the tourney in the semi's by nigeria. But adu looked nice and the US might have an outside chance to reach the semi's...
It was on late last night, I recorded it but you can watch the broadcast on NBC...let me see if I can find a link. Link to archived streams of everything Just select what you want to watch and expand it to full screen..... DD
I am not saying the USA will be a force in 2010, but maybe they have some creative players finally coming up to make a teensy bit of noise.... They have lacked creative midfield and finishing play.....Donavan used to be the only one...he would put the ball into space only to have the strikers scratching their heads... Adu seems to be doing it, and the strikers are running onto the ball..... I like it a lot. DD
I agree the young talent looks organized and more creative, but when they take that next step up everyone is organized and creative. But I this team looks game and adu did create some things out there.. On a side note did, when did adu turn into calvin murphy that dude looks old
I agree that everyone is creative but at least now we can see what the rest of the world has had for the last 50 years..... And Adu does look old, maybe he got a Chinese gymnists passport? DD
Too bad Adu's unnecessary yellow-card (studs up around the goalie's face) will cause him to miss the Nigeria game due to his second infraction in 2 games.
I know that is a worrisome proposition, he seems to be the one guy that is involved in almost all the goals.... Let's hope the US can at least eke out a draw. DD
Nigeria would be a tough test WITH Adu. It will be that much harder without him. The African nations always seem to do well on the youth stage. I'm not sure what happens to them when it comes to the senior national team level. I think we have a good chance to advance. If Japan could somehow hold Holland to a tie or even beat them, life would be much easier. I don't see that happening, though.
If you have AT&T U-Verse, you can watch Olympics coverage on NBC, the NBC Olympics Soccer Channel, the Chinese Olympics channel, another channel (I believe they're in the 80's), and Telemundo. I have been missing all the U.S. games since I have been busy, but they also don't help with the scheduling, since it's all messed up and I can't DVR it. I might as well DVR all the soccer games.
I woke up at 6:30 yesterday for the game. Obviously, getting a draw so late is disappointing, but it was a far better result than I expected against NL. The future of our team looks good!
^ I agree. A win is better. Still, I would rather not see ANY professional player in OLYMPIC uniform. They're already getting paid to do something they love, and they should let the young guys compete. WTF is McBride doing there...? And Riquelme in Argentina's team...? Aren't they about 200 years old combined?!?!? Cheating with OLDER players cost Mexico the '90 World Cup, anyhow.
So true, if you would have asked most people before the game they would be more than happy with a draw but after playing so well and being so close to getting a win it's a big let down. But any player with any amount of skill is probably going to be signed to a contract by time they are in their late teens. To not allow any professional players would make it a U15 tournament. I think with the really old guys they are on the team because they want to be. US soccer wouldn't have ever put McBride on the team but he asked to be on it and after serving the national team for so long you can't tell the guy no. The other two over age players for USA are Guzan and Parkhurst who are both 23 or 24.
Ofcourse since I live in Europe. People here would die for their football team so it's weird when I say that I love basketball. USA has a good team but I think not enough to win a medal. Argentina is looking good!
Thats so silly i don't know where to begin. The poster you were responding to was talking about youth competitions as opposed to just the Olympics. You can't say that the African teams in the Olympics all play guys that are over 23, thats bull and hasn't been proven but it has been proven that a couple of countries have done that in the U20 and U17 tourneys. Now let's no generalize and say they ALL do that because we know there are a lot of countries in African and I'm sure there are a lot of them that don't that sort of thing. I could generalize and say all South American teams are floppers/divers and cheaters but that would be a silly stereotype as they are teams in Europe, Asia and even Africa that do the same. Don't act like South American Countries don't falsify ages as well because your Brazil was implicated in an age cheating issue with a player in the 2003 U20s if i'm not mistaken.
The USA and Nigeria will go through. I though the Dutch team was overrated before the tourney and I still think so. The only question is will Japan put forth a good effort vs Holland because who ever loses the USA-Nigeria match will need a game performance by Japan. I love the Nigerian team and I gotta support my boy Stu Holden on the USA so I hope both teams go through.
