That was just great television. I can't say that I've ever seen anything like that. I was yelling at the kid to spell the word and stop asking questions. He had like 10 seconds left to spell, hos eyes roll, and he faints under the pressure, immediately gets back up off the stage, and spells it correctly under even more pressure. Talk about going from goat to hero in less than 2 seconds. Amazing! The kid was great. Too bad he came in second. But even at that, he'll be remembered more than his brother (who won) ever will be. That was the performance of a lifetime. Willis Reed Style. But even more dramatic.
are you serious??? kids fainting under the pressure on stage....this is just way too much. particularly for freaking spelling. the whole thing is a huge trainwreck in my opinion.
I feel sorry for the little Indian dude that won 2nd place. His big brother won two years ago. He has brought shame onto his family.
Okay damnit I admit it! We were is San Antonio (disgusting place by the way) and there was nothing on tv so we saw the spelling bee!! Those kids are way beyond nerdy. If my kid started spelling words I cant even pronounce at the age of 12 I would b**** slap their ass and make em play Nintendo for a few hours.
I was well on the way to becoming one of these twitchy geeks. My parents forced me to study and DRILLED me on the words in my 2nd and 3rd grade spelling bees. I won both of them, and they thought I might eventually go far in the contests, but I grew bored quickly. Sitting around the dinner table at age 7 while your mom cooks and you sit there reciting the spelling of a BOOK of words you don't even know is NO FUN!
Thank you. I have no desire to take away all the fun when my children are growing up. I truly feel sorry for those kids.
