Right now we have Reliant Energy, but I was thinking about switching to Stream Energry. Does anyone have it? Like it? Had any problems?

I'm thinking about going with their 100% Renewable Energy plan, is that going to effect my service at all?

Also, anyone recommend any other companies?

I had it last year and was under contract for a year. It was cheaper than most if not all electric companies at the time.

Unless they've changed, I don't remember any. Its a good company I would say. I remember getting my electric bill during the summer and it was less than 100 dollars and I keep my AC on all the time! I was pretty happy. :D

Spark Energy is what I am using now, have had no complaints so far. Im locked in at 16/kwh for a 1 year contract.

Stream is a company similar to Spark as well as Amigo Energy, very you company that is sold by individuals so they dont spend hardly any money on Ads, but I dont know anyone using Stream at the moment.

Sorry if that was no help lol

I'm on the Reliant Energy plan with wind power. IIRC it's 100% wind power.

I use them....only thing that pisses me off is that there is a 2.95 fee when you pay online, no matter what. i guess theres no fee if you write a check and mail it in but i never get stamps anyways.

    no problems though besides that

It is high compared to what's available right now... but depending on when it was locked in (last summer, perhaps?), it might have been about average.

Right now, if you go to Powertochoose.org and compare offers from different suppliers in the Houston area, the rates are about as low as they've been for a long, long time.

Damn good rates right now. I locked in for a year a few months ago when rates were considerably higher. ):

I used Stream and didn't like it because they never sent out a notice via mail or email and it was up to me to remember when to log online and make a payment and that was a recipe for disaster. I switched to Gexa.

I've used them for almost 2 years now. My only complaint is the have some idiots working in the customer service dept, but I think that is the case anywhere. They screwed up my billing for a few months when I moved last year but it eventually got worked out. Other than that I've had no complaints and I've renewed my contract with them a couple times.

I have Stream and pay my bill at Krogers ($1 charge). Here is the Stream Pay Center locator link.

I renewed my contract with reliant and got an awesome locked in rate for 1 year for 13.2 cents per kwh. The only surcharge is the 3.95 centerpoint charge and of course tax. I have to say, not bad at all.

Getting renewable isn't going to affect your service at all. I would suggest getting fixed rate instead of being variable. The problem with going with the little guys like Stream is that they are more prone to having problems with billing you correctly and with customer service. Their systems just aren't as good as Reliant's. But, they probably do well enough and I know Stream has fairly good customer satisfaction.

The other problem with the little guys is that if energy prices go crazy again this summer, they might go out of business and you get a bit of a raw deal -- switched to another company without real notice and then charged a punitive rate in your first month with them.

I'd recommend Gexa only if you're getting a fixed price contract. They do have wind power, and they are subsidiary to FPL, which is the largest wind energy generator in the country. We are also the least likely to go unexpectedly bankrupt, even less likely than Reliant or TXU.

It's only a 6-month term going through this summer, but I just locked in $.1039/kWh through Green Mountain. For a 100% renewable product, that's about as cheap as I've seen.
