Any good? Worth the $10? What's missing? Yes, yes. We all know you can get 'free' music online. I'm interested in the honest route.
I use to use the paid version of Napster, which is essentially the same service of Rhapsody. I really enjoyed it and found it was worthwhile. There are no drawbacks as long as you are fine with losing the music when you cancel. A lot of the biggest bands might not allow their catalogs to be available through this service. AC/DC and The Beatles don't distribute their music digitally. I'd imagine some other classic rock bands like Led Zep might not be available through the subscription services. Otherwise, it's a good service.
I have Rhapsody and I like it but.... I like it because it integrates seamlessly with Sonos. Sonos is a system that lets me distribute music from my computer's hard drive (i.e. my MP3s) to any stereo in my house (or anywhere I want to put a zone player, really) wirelessly (or wired) in perfect sync. Because it integrates with Rhapsody I can add songs from Rhapsody into any playlist I want thus can mix my music with the Internet content. As the above poster mentioned, there are some acts that are not licensed for it but, for the most part, you get a lot. I can also listen to it at work which is a bonus. To be sure, if I could only listen to it from my computer at home I wouldn't find it such a value because I don't listen to music in front of my computer all the time. But because of Sonos and the ability to stream music all over my house, it's worth it.
I'm set on the classics, so no worries if the Beatles or AC/DC won't stream to me. As for integration with home networks. Covered there. Every viable music source in my crib has either an ipod dock, laptop or is network aware. Does Rhapsody have a decent iphone app? Repped for the input. Keep it coming. I use LimeWire pro, it's like 40 bucks a year and the pro is worth it. Not only do you get more results in your search's, but the speed and music quality are also improved from the free version. They just added a new virus scan tool that automatically scans each download for viruses. After each file finishes downloading it auto-swings it over to my itunes, so it works pretty well for me. I don't like that Rhapsody erases your files if you cancel the service.
