I have a friend that went to the post office at the end of Aug. to get a new passport, and as of today they said is still "being process". We were planning on an Asia trip in Dec. and they told him it would take 4-6 wks but it has been 13 weeks so far. I believe more people are getting their passport done since the new law went into effect in June that you need a U.S passport returning from Canada and Mexico. Has anyone here recently applied for a new passport or had one renew?
I got a new one fairly recently, The post office I went to was off of BW 8 and I think westheimer. Had it rush delivered, so it got in within 3weeks.
I went to the downtown office location and received mine in 4 weeks. Went to another near Intercontinental for my sons...it's open late and it took 6 weeks.
I didn't renew, I got a new one. Applied about 3 weeks ago, got it yesterday. Standard service, no rush.
I'd start looking into it. My wifes got lost, they had the wrong zip code so it got sent back. she had to start the process over after finding this out.
Renewed my wife's and got two new one's for my kids about three months ago. Took about 3 weeks for the wife to get hers, and about 4-5 weeks for the kids. Aside: I needed passports for my 23 month old daughter and 3 month old son. ****ing ridiculous. Total cost for all three passports was almost 300 bucks.
Damn it seems like most of you guys got it in 3-4 weeks. So, 13 weeks without expedited service is still tooo long rite?
It's best to shell out the extra bit of money and get the rush service. You'll get it back usually within two weeks or less. Applying for visa's is a whole other story.
We went through this a couple of years ago. Unsurprisingly, they're still cocking everything up. My wife (works for the Texas Lege) called our US Congressman and asked if he could expedite things. We got them at the very last possible moment, the day we went to the airport. It was a nightmare, but we got them. You might try contacting your local congressperson's office and see if it helps. Be polite, but tell them you're desperate (and praise the guy/gal, even if you don't mean it, that you are a supporter. my wife knew our guy and his wife, and we are fans of both... different situation).
