A friend sent this to me... I forgot how flashy the guy used to be (and turnover prone). I bet some of you expected this stuff when we got Rafer Alston, but we never got that. (for the better because his assist to turnover ratio would be much worse) Still, its interesting to see how much he has changed. I don't think the NBA has ever had a point guard this flashy and crazy. And also interesting to note how stupid it was for Memphis to trade the draft rights to Mike Bibby for J-Dub.

I did like watching him pass, and that ELBOW pass behind the back....best pass I have ever seen.

    not quite.

flashy, yes, but to say he's more flashy than Jason Williams (in his crazy days) is to play his "legend" card way too hard. maravich paved the road and then JWill built a highway on top of it.

but while we're discussing him, i just wanted to ask if anyone ever feels like PG's with great handles/vision (Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Baron Davis) have like a 6th sense that simply cannot be learned. some of the stuff they do is just...unreal.

    ?

Memphis didn't trade the draft rights to Mike Bibby for J-Dub. Bibby played a few years already in Vancouver. They had a nice group with Michael Dickerson (M&M connection!) and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Too bad they had the worse bench in the league and were separated. (and let's not forget that dickerson retired due to injuries.)

You're right, my bad... Those Vancouver years just don't feel like they existed. All I remember Vancouver drafted that oh so wonderful inknown commodity, Bryant "big country" Reeves.

Not to discredit how crazy J Will was in his rookie days, but I remember seeing some footage of Pistol pete that was so unimaginable and jaw dropping that I was disillusioned about today's (at around the JWill time) flashy plays really being revolutionary. I dont think J will could have done what I saw on ESPN. But then in the few years since, all I could find on the internet were bs maravich clips that show his, to me, rather dull plays.

Dont know if someone here knows what im talking about ???

Skip has amazing handles but he does it against street ballers. JWill does it in the NBA finals.

I was going to say something similar, except that JWill hasn't been really flashy for a few years now, since Hubie Brown reeled him in a lot. He definitely did it against NBA talent night in and night out while in Sac-town though. Damn I loved watching that team play.

The problem with playing like that is that they look awesome and jaw-dropping on the highlight reels, but in reality a lot of those passes are picked off, or go out of bounds. J-Will's turnovers have gone down quite a bit recently from his early career.
