He's been doing quite an admirable job for the Toronto Raptors and he has got his team playing much improved defense.

He's making Bargnani and Calderon play decent defense

I didn't know that was humanly possible

I liked Casey, he was my first preference. But we went the way we did for reasons that no one here is privy to, so we can at very least give it a season before second-guessing.

Bargani moight make the All-Star team this year

But im glad we didnt hire Casey(simply because if we hired him, we probably would have lost our first rounder in a deep draft). I dont think Mchale is here for the long haul

But boy did we miss the bus on Coach Thibadeau( would have been perfect for the Rockets, plus he is one of the youngest coaches in the league)

    No.

But, I'm still hurting from the Gerald Wallace-2-Houston buzz at the deadline last season. MJ was willing to flip a high motor 6'7'' defensive menace w/ mad bounce for peanuts.

Casey would not adhere to Morey/Les so no job for him here. :p

"OK Dwane, you're going to hire this guy, this guy, and this guy. We're also going to promote this guy to your staff whether you like it or not."

    . . .

What about Lawrence Frank? No love for Lawrence Frank? :p

Still only 9 games in to the season. We have played 3 or 4 games with decent defense. Still too early to be worrying about our coaching hire. Give coach at least till the trade deadline to see if it is just the schedule/lack of practice that is causing us to play so horrendously.

We are in the midst of a 17-7 run, starting with last nights win against Charlotte. We will be in the top 5 come March.

Wtf! I can't hire my brother or my son? This some bull****.

Yup. More so because I never liked McHale as a coach (he's likable as a basketball guy). McHale couldn't coach in the past, he can't coach now. "Play harder guys, gosh, geez, lets get meaner guys" isn't an effective strategy.

Raptors have the same issue as 76ers... incredibly weak schedule thus far.

Cleveland, Indiana, Dallas, Orlando, NYK, Cleveland, NJ, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Washington.

And with that, they're 4-6. They've gone 1-3 in their last 4 against NJ, Philly, Minnesota and Washington.

What exactly am I missing here?? Is this something to be jealous of?

McHale was a horrible hire....but if he nets us Harrison Barnes , I'm content with that.

That is not how it works in professional sports, coaches generally bring their own assistants who know their system.

    smh... agreed...

really not caring how good our coaching staff is x and o wise. As long as they are preaching effort in route to a loss, I'm good. It really isn't important to be good this year.

excuse me while I go take a shower...

JVG used to say pretty much the same stuff in interviews. I am sure each of McHale and JVG have strategies and instructions to players other than what they tell the media.

I'dld doubt it. If those players improved they did in the offseason. Both played in the 2011 Eurobasket tourny.

I wish we had hired him instead of McHale.
