So which do you watch, the one on NBC or the one on CBS, or do you go to a local parade, or do you just skip it?

Every year my family watches the parade on NBC, but I wonder if the CBS version is better.

    ;)

I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. I don't even know you, and I hate your guts. I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and nobody else but you.

Usually pull an all-dayer at the multiplex on T-Day, but Thanksgiving is live, morning programming; and that's NBC's territory. There the only network that's convinced me they're actually located in New York City. Only watch ABC or CBS for something local. I guess if I was back in Houston I'd probably watch KHOU for the local parade.

Why would someone subject themselves to watching a parade on television?

If you've had a bad year and you just want to be in the holiday moment. And you don't feel like "deciding" on something to watch. I bet there comes a point when all the movies and TV shows just look the same, watching something live with "real" people may just seem that much more original.

I think CBS is also covering the Macy's parade, but they can't call it that, and they use different announces, of course.

It's a cultural thing. Perhaps your family is new to America?

The only thing worse than going to an actual live parade is watching one on tv. I thought only people above age 65 watched these things nowadays.

There was a point in time, only a little while ago, when Houston's parade was one of the top 5 in the nation and was shown over several different States.

No more. This needs to be improved or shot in the head. It is Memphis, TN depressing these days.

Do they use any of the footage from NY, like the balloons?

We never did. We just had floats. Back in the 70's, we had actual recognizable characters, but when you have a Louie the Lightning bug float, it's time to close up shop.

(why can't Houston just sponsor the Power of Houston thing? That was the one stellar and unique thing we ever did.)

Watching the Thanksgiving day parade on NBC with my family before we all ultimately get bored an hour in is as much a tradition as turkey in my family.

Think watching the parade has just become tradition for me...wake up in the morning and make some breakfast and sit down and watch the floats and balloons. Don't care about the performances though, and unfortunately that's what the Houston Parade has devolved into; it's trying to be too much like Macy's or something.

And there's nothing quite like watching your 3 1/2yr old getting excited watching the balloons and waving at Santa. That is priceless.

Watched some people I knew in the Houston one, then switched to Macy's.

The one showing their youth is you. Watching the parade on TV was an American institution for decades. It's only fallen out of favor the last few years.

    So I'm guessing you're under 21?

    ;)
