The main things to consider are sound insulation/acoustics and your overall budget. You could probably contract out a hi-end audio store to do everything for you from start to finish, but if you're already considering a $5-10k car I don't think you wanna go that route. Best thing to probably do is go get a book on room acoustics to configure the walls, flooring etc yourself and then look for used audio components - you can usually find some good deals on nice stuff at many stores in NYC, so I'm assuming Houston must have a few too.

If you want, send me an email. I've built more than one home studio including the one I have now. I can try to help put you in the right direction.

Nah this studio is gonna be out of his pocket. Apparently in the last few months he's become a high roller and he plans on buyin a BMW M3. I'll ask him what's his budget though. Jeff I'll send u an e-mail as soon as I ask him. BTW, I'm not in HOuston anymore, I'm in the NW suburbs of Chicago.

Computer! Big Hard drive. Recording and editing software. Soundforge, Acid, Vegas, Cubase, etc.

A good mixing board with dsp effects. Mackie.

Hook up your decks, tables, mixers, and processors and run it all into the beige box.

I like to have an outboard eq that I can use as an isolator for making samples.
