I have been invited to join and just wondered whether the potential future benefits would justify an outlay for the membership dues. In a later post, I will describe what the organization is, but part of my aim here is to see if anyone knows about this organization off the top of their heads.
Im, in it. It's only one time dues of 200 or 250. If you're an accounting major i think its like 50 dollars off the cpa exam. Also any event which bap hosts always gives awesome free food. They also paid for my entire regional conference trip to louisiana last february...drinks and all. It is a very wealthy organization because of alumni and corporate donations. It also is not a huge time committment and gives you access to industry execs/recruiters when recruiting time rolls around.
It's a business organization. I believe they were going remove the fraternity from the name as both men and women can join. My wife was in it while she was at UH. If you are an accounting major it's definitely something that you should join. The organization will not only help you prepare for the CPA, but it exposes you to most all large and mid-market accounting firms in the area along with large industry companies. The big four, PKF, the oil companies etc all include BAP in their recruiting efforts. It's a great resume builder and the connections you make there help with the job/internship hunt. Pretty much everyone that was in my wife's PPA class that was in BAP landed a job easily. She had a great time and attributes much of her accounting success to them.
No, it is an honors organization for financial information professionals. I am just not sure that the possible benefits will be worth the outlay of (thanks to alex for the number) $200 to $250. I will not be taking the CPA exam as my major is MIS, so that discount will not affect me. They have an orientation meeting Friday and I will go to see if it will do anything for me, but I have a two-year-old and a four-month-old, so $250 is a bit much to try and squeeze out of my budget.
Yeah, I don't think as a MIS major it'll help you as much. Most everyone will be in Accounting or Finance and when the companies come recruiting, they won't be looking for MIS majors.
