I'm starting to look at some Roland gear for making electronic music. I picked up some stuff on ebay. Anyone have any experience making beats?

Well depending on what you want to do, Roland may not be the best choice. You can't import audio kits and you have to use the Roland kits that come with the workstations. The best way to go is with a midi setup and buy an Akai MPC 2000 Production Center. That alone will run you about $2,000 but it pays for itself. Again, it all depends on what you want to do and whether your running a PC or Mac.

Thanks for the tips. I actually already have a MC307 and a sp 505, and an effects box. I might as well learn to use them. The akai gear looks nice, though.

I dj a little bit on the side, too. That's a different cat than making new or coloring your mix. Latin, Lounge, ballroom and salsa are a bit different than hip hop, though.
