I'm sure alot of you have heard about the violence going on in Sydney atm. I'm only down the road from brighton, which is one of the spots where the riots have broken out. Can anyone here from outside Australia tell me what the coverage has been like and how it has been portayed?
Listening to the scanner at the moment. Fights seem to be breaking out all over Cronulla. The coverage over here in Perth has been non stop and I can see the esculating all over the country.

I read an article about it off of google news. Pretty much went as follows: 1. Arabs attack lifeguards 2. Whites attack Arabs 3. Arabs attack Whites 4. Politicians feel shame
I've tried looking it up, what I gather is a gang of Lebanese kids beat up 2 lifeguards, the police say it wasn't racially motivated or a Jihad or anything. Neo Nazi's in Australia used that to capitilize on the tension that already exists between young Aussies and young Arabs. But I got my news from an Australian paper, so I guess that doesn't meet your "what does the foreign press" think criteria.
I live in Sydney, although I live out in the western suburbs and not near any of this stuff. This has bee brewing for a while now....the politicians have sat back and let a lot of stuff happen and its all blown up. What you have is one group of idiots vs another group of idiots. This is more like an assiciated gang thing rather than a race based thing in my opinion. Its a sad day for Australia, we are a nation of imigrants and to see this stuff happening anywhere is shocking.
You know what dude? i was just asking out of curiosity so i don't know what the hell your problem is.... And if you think this began from one bashing of a couple of lifeguards then you obviously don't have clue about whats been going on for the last five or six years...Yeah, there have been Neo Nazi groups out there adding fuel to the fire, but that fire's been burning for years my friend. I didn't want any of this sh*t to happen, but its kinda hard not to be pi**ed off when people come in to work this morning terrified because their streets,home and cars have been completely smashed and destroyed by gangs while the police and politicians to nothing to PREVENT it.
