Im a freshman at UT and pledged pike in the fall. got to thinking how many people are on cluthcity, and some of you are probably or were at some point in a fraternity. anyone? oh and uhhhh go rockets! (sorry it just feels wierd not mentioning the rockets on a rockets board)
Delta Tau Delta-1992-1996 Social Chairman in 1995. Nice to see some Delt Brethren out there. Hey Kilgore, Earl!
Pledged in 99 and graduated last may. Fatty, Its cool to see there are other Delts on the board. Our baylor site is http://www3.baylor.edu/delta_tau_delta/delt.htm
Kilgore: I agree. What pisses me off was that our chapter was caught for hazing in 1999. And they're having to rebuild. And another thing: Anyone who thinks hazing is wrong is an idiot. Plain and simple. For anyone who thinks I am wrong, I did everything during my pledgeship that my boys had done before me. And I EXPECTED everyone after me to do same. You had to earn membership. And we were notorious for having the worst hazing rituals. Parent's are moron's, and for that matter, so is M.A.D.D. Take one youth's death, personify it, and all of the sudden people have to "curb" everything, and put restrictions on everything. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who gets immediate acceptance will never be one of my brother's.
Fatty, I guess that i am idiot then. Im not meaning any disrespect towards your views but hazing in general is useless. I agree that pledging shouldnt be easy but I think there is a middle ground between hazing and immediate acceptance. Also, that sucks that your chapter was kicked off for a while but its great to hear that they are back.
Kilgore: The fact that you are here and a Delt makes you my brother! But I stand firm on Frat's that don't haze. As I said, I had to, why shouldn't you? Because of mommy's who are worried about their poor babies???? I lost two of my brother's during my reign there. Neither one had anything to do with pledgeship. Let boy's be boy's, IMO. If you have a problem with hazing, please discuss! It's like boot camp getting a bad rap!
I'm curious, have any of you guys caugth and episode of Fraternity Life on MTV, where they follow a a group of guys through Rush and pledging? As for hazing, I think it depends on how far it goes. Making guys drink tons of alcohol until they come close to dying is a no no, beating the crap out of guys is fine with me, it's what we did at my boarding school. Every year, right before finals, the new class of 7th grade boys and anybody who was a first year student had to go through Rookie Night, basically, the rest of the school, 8th-12th, would fight the kids, nothing too serious, mostly wrestling, you didn't want to leave marks for the teachers to see. You could tell a lot from a class based on the way they acted on Rookie Night. If they actually fought, then you knew these guys were brave, believed in tradition, and had some pride in themsleves. If the class was full of wussies and wimps, they usually hid, of course we would manage to find a good deal of them. Of course, we also had Senior Night, when the rest of the school got to fight the senior class. Kind of like beat in, beat out. I know I'm getting off topic, but one thing I always found funny was that guys who you heard had hid on their rookie night, would participate in both RN and SN because they were part of a larger group, then when their Senior Night came, they would hide all over again, biatches.
Im not in a fraternity, Im a freshman at Tech when I started school I thought for sure I would not have time for this kind of stuff. Now I have more time than what I know what to do with. Anybody have any experience with fraternities at Tech? good or bad cuz im leaning towards joining one next fall . And about hazing its not a bad thing but it can go to far. If it damages ones health than you went to far. In my hs all of the senior football players would pick one JR and catch him and shave his head bald. The guy that cares a little bit to much about his hair usually got it.
Its funny on our campus the TKE house is shuting down due to a lack in numbers, but everywhere else I hear that TKE is a good house to live in. I just wonder if every campus has house that is looked down on. Its gotten so bad that the common saying on campus is "If you cant go greek go TKE"
