I heard the story second hand, so to speak, and you won't believe it when somebody posts a link! my God. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
What? The shark that bit the kid's arm off? ------------------ Why not visit MovieForums.com? Or FilmDallas.com?
Are you talking about the boy in Pensacola that got his arm bit off by a shark? Apparently, they reattached his arm, but he probably has some brain damage since he hasn't even regained conciousness. ------------------ Is it Rachmaninov or Rachmaninoff? Yeah, I heard about that. The uncle or father(I forgot which one he was with) wrestled with the shark and brought it to shore with the boy's arm after the boy's arm was bit off. Pretty crazy stuff. ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Look at my butt. And what kind of shoes do they have me wearing? Yeah. That's the story, but what about how they got the arm back. Damn. I can only imagine it. ------------------ humble, but hungry.

Sharks will attack when they're hungry. I've heard of animal rights guys who cover up shark attacks. I don't know if that is true or possible, but it is interesting. BTW, a buddy of mine was in a helicopter over Port Aransas, and he said there were alot of sharks swimming amongst the humans. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? I heard sharks will attack ON LAND, and then they wiggle themselves back into the water after the kill. Pretty cool. Also, some guy got footage of a Great White Shark fighting a killer whale 'bout 6 years ago. It was the first time ever this battle was recorded on film. Looked like a cool fight. Took place at the surface of the ocean and the guy just happened to have his camcorder. Damn! Ended in a draw as far as I know. It was never tohught these creatures tussled. ------------------ humble, but hungry. [This message has been edited by PhiSlammaJamma (edited July 09, 2001).]
Maybe I'm wrong for saying, but I'm glad they killed that shark! ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
Killer whales regularly do this with seals. Sad site to see, but hey, it's nature. Poor great white. Actually the killer whale won the battle you're talking about and it wasn't even close. I saw part of it. The killer whale beat the crap out of that shark. Of course the orca was also twice the size of that shark, too, but it was impressive to watch nonetheless. ------------------ "Yes, it's true. Kelvin Cato DOES have plenty of heart. no shock factor for me, most everyone has Great Whites for pets downunder. ------------------ "The things I enjoy most, I suck at: 1) Sex: everything's fine until she makes noises." - Achebe [This message has been edited by SmeggySmeg (edited July 09, 2001).]
outlaw, Thanks for the link, but that footage doesn't do justice to the attack. You can barely tell what's even going on in that footage. There was a footage on TLC, Discovery Channel, or National Geographic that showed an overhead view of an orca shoving a great white to the surface and absolutely mauling it to death. See if you can find that one. ------------------ "Yes, it's true. Kelvin Cato DOES have plenty of heart. Awesome story and footage of the Whale versus Shark, never seen that. Would like to see the full footage mentioned. Hope that boy recovers, last I heard he was still in a very serious condition. Sharks very rarely attack persons with the intent to go after humans. The boy's attack, like most, was in very cloudy water where the shark reacted to motion. That is why you here about some shark attacks, but very, very, few shark eatings of people. Predators generally just stick to what they know. Plus us humans are too scrawny to sustain the big White sharks metabolism, they usually bite and spit in disgust (though one bite might be too much to recover from). The Whites like more high calorie dishes like seals, small whales or perhaps bigger fatty fish. Far more people are killed by hippos, snakes, bees and cattle each year than by all types of sharks. I do think us humans have additional innate fears of water which further adds to the potential horrendousness of shark or croc attacks (the latter is a healthy concern I might add though).
