I was talking to a relative last night and we were talking about our family's ancestry, which is something I have been really into the last few years. Anyway, come to find out that my great great uncle was Frank Stilwell. This is the same Frank Stilwell that killed Morgan Earp (Wyatt's Earp's brother). This whole incident was documented in the movie Tombstone, which happens to be one of my fav movies of all time (Morgan Earp was played by Bill Paxton). I decided to do some research this morning and sure enough, I found some documentation to back it all up (here is one of the websites I found http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/WWearpM.htm ). Frank Stilwell was later killed by Doc Holliday and Earp. Some of my research found that Holliday and Earp were actually indicted and put on trial for this. Anyway, having a relative that killed a law enforcement officer is not anything to be proud of obviously, but I found the whole connection interesting nonetheless. PS - Another interesting thing I learned was that my GGGGrandmother was full blooded American Indian. So I will be looking into opening a casino in my backyard pretty soon. So do any of yall have any famous or infamous connections in your family???
Funny, that you should mention this as I thought about this the other day as I was visiting some relatives. I am not related to her but Barbara Mandrell is married to a man (or was - I don't know if she still is) with the last name of Dudney. My family is distantly related to the Dudney family.
My Mom dated Robert Moog, inventor of the synthesizer, for a while. She dumped him and started going out with my Dad. 46 years later, she still never lets him forget it!
I am distantly related to (in no particular order): Daniel Boone, Shirley Temple, and Tennessee Williams.
Somehow or another, my mom claims that we're related to Kelsie Grammer. Distant relatives or something. I've never met the man though.... Cod
i don't know if any of you have seen an episode of the steve harvey show, but somehow wendy raquel robinson (plays the character regina) is related to me. my little brother and i spotted her at one of our family reunions several years ago. here she is...
According to my sister-in-law who's into this stuff, we had some (I'd don't remember how many greats) Aunts and Uncles who where burned during the Salem witch hunt. Oh and we had a great, great uncle who stole a donkey and went awal during the Civil war. Proud moments in the family tree.
I am somehow related to the first human being on earth. And a monkey named bobo that predates man and touched the monolith. way cool.
I'm related somehow to the creator of Harvey comics. They are most well known for "Casper" and "Richie Rich". oomp
which witch hunt would a witch hunt hunt if a witch hunt which hunt wood? EDIT: yeah... she is, pgabriel. she came to the reunion in a kinda sorta disguise so she wouldn't be as noticable. i don't blame her for it. i wouldn't want family members pestering me for autographs, pictures, or... money.
Whenever this subject comes up, it seems like everyone is related to someone historically notable except for me. My only hope is that, after my father's death, his art becomes the in-thing. A friend recently told me that an ancestor of hers has the dubious distinction of being the first white person to kill another white person in what was to be the USA. He wasn't a Puritan but had bought passage on the Mayflower, the story goes. My brother-in-law has Ellison as his middle name, after the writer. My wife was long under the impression that they were related in some way. It turns out that a relative of hers had married the ex-wife of Ellison after his divorce. In other words, no relation at all. Oh, and a friend claims that his ancestor invented the cotton gin, but the invention was stolen by the guy who is credited in all the history books.
My sister was with Micheal Williams while he was at Baylor. She actually really liked him, but couldn't deal with the crap they'd get being seen around campus and stuff. In case you don't know, Micheal Williams broke Calvin Murphy's consecutive free throws made record back in the early 1990s. I've held his NBA World Championship ring as well. He had a decent career until he shattered his heel in the first minute of the first game of the season in the mid-1990s. We're related to U.S. Grant somehow as well.
