    i'm thinking about getting one.

is it worth it... what's the experience like and how hard is it to install yourself?

depends on where you live. the area i live, the water is super 'hard'. if we don't get softener, it will form those chemical thingy in the tubs, walls. not useful if the water is considered 'soft'. i would recommend professional installation, if you want it go through your entire house.

you don't change salt. you just add more once it's gone. we buy 2 50 lb bags every two months. not sure exactly how long, about 2 months i would say.

this is the one we use. it goes through the entire house. and a tube for drinking water directly out of the system in the kitchen. it probably cost in the thousands though. well worth it if water is bad in your area. and the other poster said the smooth thing, it's totally true. :D feel so fresh and clean. :D

I considering this cuz I bought a house about 2 months ago and am getting tub residue, like you said (much worse than my previous home). I haven't tested the water yet so I'm not really sure how "hard" it is. Not a big deal... but it's a annoying.

^That's what I thought it said before I clicked on the link.

It's getting late... eyes getting bleary... blurry... quick, fast, in a hurry.
