As the title states. I am in the market for a used car and I noticed eBay has a ton of potential deals but I just don't know about buying a car off eBay really. I know every experience may be different, I am just wondering if anyone here has some stories/advise on buying them off eBay.

I found a few cars that are a considerable distance from me, so driving there first to look at the car isn't really an option. Just kinda curious how it goes if you don't like the car when you go to pick it up, are you penalized through ebay...etc? Just some overall experiences and what not would be greatly appreciated.

I had a friend who bought a truck off ebay.

He was in contact with the seller for a week or so, then we drove down to pick it up. 4 hour drive.

Seemed like a pretty normal transaction.

I bought my last car off eBay, and my brother has bought several.

Have a 3rd party inspect the car.

Put money in escrow if not a reputable dealership.

I (or my immediate family) have bought 2 cars off eBay. No problems either time. Both were one-owners, did Carfax, had 3rd party inspection, no problems at all for the enitre time we have owned them.

As with anything on eBay, definitely pay attention to the feedback.

I bought a truck for my dad off eBay. One of the better decisions I've made in my lifetime.

My wife sold her car on there, and I think both parties were pretty satisfied.

Seems like most dealerships must cancel their accounts after they get negative feedback and start another one. I've noticed in the past that most of them have pretty low feedback numbers. Just an observation. I've never bought a car on ebay. I've seen so many cars on craigslist that sounded great until I got there, only to be disappointed, that I don't think I could buy a car without test driving it first.

Forgot to mention. I'm a total ebay junky. I buy stuff off of ebay frequently. But, I usually don't buy big ticket items there.
