I work from home and have a lot of down time so I was thinking about door dashing a few hours a day to make some extra spending money. I drive a 12 year old car that's paid for so I'm not concerned about the wear and tear. Gas is negligible since I work from home. Seems like easy money. Drive to Chic fil a, pick up bag, drive to home, drop off bag. You don't even have to talk to anybody. Anybody have any experience doing this?
How much do you enjoy traffic and other drivers? I delivered pizza back in in the pre uber days it was not a tough gig if you have a comfortable car I have friends that do it the profit is not as high as they would have liked i.e. they make 50$ but on 20$ worth of gas over the course of 4 hours Rocket River
Over here most of the drivers are E-bike drivers......but I guess it is the land of automobile vehicles.
Thinking about it, not a terrible idea if you can pick up an order on the way to your destination and have minimal downtime. And if you can get something going back you're double-dipping.
Not sure if this is 100% correct but it's something (see below). I had a one year pass on one of the food apps and it was great as it didn't charge me any fees so I would tip better, my pass ended, and I was shocked at how much in fees they were charging and haven't done it since AI Overview DoorDash drivers, or Dashers, can make varying amounts depending on several factors, but the average hourly pay in the US is around $16-$24. Some Dashers report making $1,500 per week or $14.40 per hour after gas expenses, while others report making $700-$800 weekly. The actual earnings depend on location, time of day, demand, and performance metrics like customer satisfaction and completion rate
I am in Tokyo right now. I see a lot of bikes doing it. That would be a cool way to do it. Exercise and everyone having great road manners plus some extra money.
You shouldn't trust eating out period. They make the food presentable and taste good but use the bottom of the barrel ingredients just to pay overhead costs and make some profit. You looking to cut out chemically extracted seed oils look elsewhere.
Back in my Pizza Delivery days I made far more It was like 1.50 per delivery plus tip plus minimum wage So I got a check every 2 weeks while bringing him a cool 20~50$ a day Uber sounded good but man they cut deep into the profits for the delivery drivers Now you don't get minimun wage at all Their fees are so high I suspect that it cuts deep into tips and Their area is so much larger With Pizza deliver I come in grab like 4 pizzas and I'm out 4 deliveries in an hour - boom about 5~20$ cash With Uber and DoorDash . . .I think they may get 2~3 delivery and hour because you have to go to the Restaurant - pick up ONE delivery then deliver it then go to another restuarant and the deliveries may not even be close .. . hell the restaurants may not be that close My friend would be calculating . . . Which one has a 10$ tip but its 20 miles away then they get to the restaurant and have to wait for the food for 10 minutes 45 minutes later they make the delivery then wait to find the next one 2$ tip but 8 miles away plus they 5 miles from the restuarant blah blah blah Far more complicated than delivering pizza and I'm not sure if there is much upside to anyone besides UBER itself Rocket River
I did Uber Eats on and off. I was selective when accepting orders. Nothing less than $1 a mile. That meant less money, probably, but higher average per order. I would work dinner and nights Wednesday through Sunday. I had 96% positive ratings. I have no idea how tough it would be if I relied on that money.
It's really for teenagers. That said, if you need work it's not terrible. Gas is going to kill you. My little brother does it
I did it for a while because I too had some extra time and enjoyed driving around and exploring. I still disliked it. It took the experience of checking out different areas (which I like) and turned it into a chore. The worst was when you deliver at apartment complexes and you have to find a way to get into the gate, or find their unit. Anyways it just became boring so I stopped, I didn't need the money.
I don't know if you guys have instacart in Texas but I can tell you college kids trying to navigate grocery stores is funny as hell. I could also tell you I would never trust a stranger selecting my cuts of meat. I always go to the butcher in store. I'm specific about my meat.
I think being selective is the key. I'm not looking for a career change...I'd just like an easy way to make a little extra spending money. I would be fine with just $100 - $200/month. I work from home and have a lot of down time. Why not use the time to make some money instead of....well, posting on CF? Gas wouldn't be an issue because I would decline any orders that are more than a mile or 2 away. I will stick to the back of Kingwood where I live. I will also decline any apartment/office building orders. Just ordered a hot bag from Amazon. Hoping to get started later this week.
