Well, the 2 biggest needs as everyone has said are shooting and a big. The Big was resolved this year when we traded for Adams. Knecht helps with the shooting on a 4 year rookie contract. 2 problems solved starting next year. Just need to make 1 or 2 more upgrades in free agency. PG - VanVleet / FA SG - Green? / Whitmore / Knecht S.F. - Brooks / Thompson P.F. - Smith / Eason ..C - Sengun / Adams / Landale
Knecht not athletic? Are you serious? Knecht is explosive as a leaper. Not elite straight line but solid. Also has a reported 6’10 wingspan. Does it translate to being a good defender? That remains to be seen. But he is anything but unathletic, far better athlete than Herro. If you’re strictly talking laterally, then I would agree with you.
If he is athletic why is he a bad defender? This dude 2 yrs older than Jabari rn lol. Basically what you see is what you get from him. I guess we will see a lot more in the combine if he is really 6'6 barefoot with a 6'10 wingspan he would Iook a lot better imo.
Bro Knecht is wasted in that lineup just think how many mins the 3rd guy in the rotation gets. I don't think Knecht solves any problems in the 5 mins he gets every other game. That's partly why I don't like getting Knecht Rox may be better off getting a rawer prospect like Tipjane Salaun who can develop in GLeague.
Lot of athletic dudes are bad defenders. Just saying the tools are there. He is a weird case, his route to being what he is, is wild. He probably has a little more upside but not much. His floor is projectable in the league though.
Athletic dudes who are bad defenders tend to be busts with low bball IQ so I don't think that's a good sign. How much better do you think he is over Corey Kispert and Cam Johnson? Cuz those 2 guys won't get any PT on our team next year IMO, not with Tari Eason coming back and 1 yr of offseason training with Cam and Amen.
I don’t necessarily want Knecht, just pointing out he’s a good athlete that can shoot with length. On paper that’s a good thing. I’m not sure what position I would look at in the draft yet
Knecht's measurables put him right in the middle of most SFs. 6'5.50 weight 212 6'9 wingspan (2 inches below average in the DraftExpress database) He shares similar physical traits to Mario Elie and Dillon Brooks. Knecht's 10.56 agility score is fantastic, making him quicker than Cam Whitmore (which is doing something). It suggests he can defend some at the SG position as well. 39' vertical He's 23. His usage rate at Tennessee was 32% for 30 minutes a game. TO percentage 8.5% Nice overview with video links here (from No Ceilings)
Even if you let Amen or Jalen run backup PG. There's not enough min for Knecht. Eason will play some backup SF min too. Ideally you want to run 9-10 men rotation in regular season and cut it down to 8 for playoff.
I was wrong on Dalton Knecht. He looked unathletic to me cuz he always let his opponent blow by him on defense but in the combine he got top marks on pretty much all the drills including agility and side to side. He also has adequate size and length at 6'5.25 barefoot he can play either spot on the wing but will be a size advantage at SG. The problem I guess is he doesnt do the dirty work bad on defense and got around the same rebs as 6'1 Reed Shepherd. On the plus side he is tough as nails he finishes hard all the time and doesnt mind contact at the rim. Reminds me of Cam Whitmore tbh. Not sure how good he can tbh. Athletic sharpshooter with good height and length he should have been a one and done or a soph at the latest not a senior. Havent seen a player looking this solid wait so long I guess he will be high impact old rookie like Desmond Bane/Herb Jones/Keegan Murray. Id love to get him if we were able to trade down.
Certainly wouldn't be opposed to it. He was really fun to watch at Tennessee and wasn't outclassed athletically, but I was unsure how his measurables would turn out. That doesn't seem to be a problem.
