Anyone else going to see this show in The Woodlands next Friday. Opener is ZZ Top. This was originally scheduled for May, but got pushed back. I have always wanted to see Tom Petty. I am in the seating section for this show, but pretty close to the front and center. Anyone else going?
I'm not in Houston, but Tom Petty throws down and puts on a hell of a show. Even though he's about due for a walker at this point, I saw him a couple years ago (my seventh time to see him live), and he and the Heartbreakers had a great set.
Love how the NBA playoffs use "Running Down a Dream".... then show Steve Nash wiping his eyes when he says...."hit cruise control...and rubbed my eyes." .... I love Tom Petty's version of "I Wont Back Down" .
I'm not going only because I've seen him recently ... hmmm, not since Mojo. But as with any show where the artist has more hits than he can play, the crowd will be way into it and it a shared experince that can't be topped.

But as with any show where the artist has more hits than he can play, the crowd will be way into it and it's a shared experience that can't be topped. We went to Huey Lewis Sunday at the Arena (DVR'ed the Cowboys) and witnessed this firsthand. Huey opened with 4 new songs that will be on his November CD; then it was on to the hits. The familiarity with the songs doesn't seem repetitious live like it does on CD. I guess that's why The Eagles still sell out everywhere.
I saw him in the Summer of 2001 or 2002 at the Woodlands, the Wallflowers opened. It wasn't a very good show. But I give him a pass, considering he's older than dirt.
Not going, but saw him back in 1991 and he put on a helluva a show. ****, that was almost 20 years ago! I was 14

No sorry, you can sweat your asses off up there but I'll be seeing the Black Crowes at the Verizon downtown. A real rock n roll show!
WTF? Top opening for Petty? In Texas? Another data point that suggests the decline of our civilization. (Not to slam Petty, but c'mon, we're talking ZZ Top.) Anyway, I saw Petty a couple of times, including from the 5th row center stage at the Erwin Center during the Summer of 1981 (Joe Ely opened), so no need for me to tarnish those memories. Plus, I live in Oregon. Saw Top a lot too... Texxas Jam baby!
