With the Nets shipping Carter off to Orlando for expiring contracts and Courtney Lee, they've put themselves in prime position salary cap-wise for the free agent summer of 2010. Anyone else see them moving to Brooklyn and potentially creating a media/hype/revenue generating monster? They'll be in a densely populated city that takes their bball very seriously, and they now have enough cap room for two max contracts.

Imagine how much hype they'll generate and how many jerseys/tickets they'll sell if they get Lebron plus one of: Wade, Amare, or Bosh. I can't even fathom how many jerseys they'll sell and how often ESPN will be riding Brooklyn's nuts if Lebron and Wade both sign there. It's a little scary to think about.

So are you scared of the team they could potentially put together or are you scared of the potential marketing success they could have?

Are you in Marketing for the Knicks or something? The only people scared of Brooklyn having a team are.....I don't think anyone cares.

I think people could be scared of any team with Lebron.

They could be even more scared of a team that creates a lot of revenue and has a GM that can pay for talent around Lebron.

Just look at the attendance of Knicks games and the price of their roster, even when they are one of the worst teams in the league. The Knicks generate massive revenue for their owner, they can afford a ridiculous roster, and their fans are incredibly dedicated (and much more bball intelligent than fans of other teams imo.) I went to a Knicks/Rockets game this year and was really surprised by how full MSG was, how rabid the fans were for their lottery underacheiving team, and how they had intelligent and relevant things to say about the game of basketball.

Brooklyn will be the same. I can't bring myself to be a Knicks fan, but I live in Brooklyn, and I could see myself going to Brooklyn games. There's no question they'll have sold out or near sold out seasons right from the start.

But there's no arena! So even if they got the Nets to go to Brooklyn, the move wouldn't happen right in 2010. Or 2011. Or 2012. You have to have 1) the league approve the move and 2) an arena built in brooklyn. Point being, why would Lebron sign to the Nets knowing that?

I guess a little of each? If they match Lebron with another star player, they may rule the east for years. And I'm not even considering the fact that they may get a nice lottery pick next year. I could envision a perfect storm of hype and substance combining in Brooklyn. Their venue, their star power, the media hype...if things fall into place, it may be unprecedented how quickly the Brooklyn team is going to rise. Some could say it is the marketing dream machine that Stern has been begging for since Jordan's retirement.

As Nolen said though, if they don't break ground on the arena by the end of the year, they are gonna be in deep doo doo. It's really too far off to even realistically consider, but it was just something I was thinking about today.

Yup because if they move to Brooklyn they may sign our best player Brian Cook.

Why fear the unknown? The Cavs "ruled" this past year and got knocked out by the Magic

So you are pretty much worried about marketing which is a non-issue for the other 29 teams. As for worrying that the NBA might just give them the trophy, wouldn't you have to think that a team of LeBron and another star is the MAIN reason why they would win it all and not because of some conspiracy theory?

Just because the Celtics and the Lakers won the past two years means pretty much nothing other than the fact that they made the trades and were willing to pay the luxury tax to get their trophy.

Much ado about nothing. No point of worrying about a situation that does not effect our team directly.

I think reasonable minds can differ on the opinion of whether or not the Cavs ruled last year. With the talent on that team, it would have been outright amazing for them to just get to the finals. They played above their heads for a large part of the spring and early summer.

I don't believe in NBA conspiracy theories. The thought of Lebron plus another star player plus the marketability gives me visions of mid-90s Bulls or early 2000s Lakers: a possible dynasty with insane hype. The marketability/hype is a strange thing. The lack of marketability of a San Antonio may be a reason why I never really had that deep, gut-level fear of their teams. Perhaps that thinking is foolish because those teams could easily dismantle you in a highly efficient, almost boring, manner, but they just didn't have the emotional affect that other dynasty teams did.

Obviously, it is a long way away and a million variables need to fall in place for anything like that to happen...but a Lebron-led dynasty team like that is a scary thought.

Being that Brooklyn is just a borough of the City of New York and not an actual city, will the team adopt "Brooklyn", or will they simply use "New York".

Sweet uniform. And I think they should change their name to the Ballers. Brooklyn Ballers lead by Lebron James.

They can and probably will land a significant star next year. Bosh or Wade are more likely than Lebron. But you know what? Anyone can sign a star if they have the cap space--the question after that is whether or not they can win with said star. Ask the Clipps, Warriors, 76ers, and Knicks themselves how effective paying top dollar for a high-priced free agent has worked out.

As many have said in the past, so far in history only one FA acquisition has "led" his team to a championship, and that was Shaq in LA. Lebron might be the second if he goes to New York, but the odds are still long.

They really don't need to get Lebron and another superstar to be considered title contenders. They already have Devon Harris who in my opinion is twice the player Mo Williams or anybody else on the cavs is. By signing Lebron alone youve got a good starting 3 of Harris Lee and Lebron. All you need then is a Tyson Chandler like big man and a couple of decent bench players and you've got yourself a roster built to win it all. But if they somehow got Lebron and Bosh or Amare I would be very afraid of that young roster.

I don't see a difference. All New Jersey sports teams are basically New York teams. There's a reason The Giants and the Nets play in the same city.

All I see is a name change, and a boost in attendance only because of hype.

Something is just wrong with the Nets organization in general.
